Re: What has the real problem been this year?
losing valuable pieces of the defnse year and year out like a garage sale has been the key.... and injuries is what has killed us london fletcher, mccleon, and bly in 2002, losing herring for the season then releasing him, wistrom and brian young leaving in 2004, and this year williams retiring and losing butler for the season and losing fischer...

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
an unbelievable amount of injuries to the secondary killed the team
not that we had an amazing secondary or anything but when you take away from Butler and Fish (ya he sukz too) and replace it with Bartell and Johnson... you get screwed up

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
Entire Defense, OL, TE, Not enough Faulk, WR and QB injuries, other teams playing smear the QB.

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
The coaches are complete morons. Why are they not getting Steven Jackson at least 25 touches every single game? Dude had 11 rushes! Meanwhile, the freaking rookie QB attempted 36 passes? I could call offensive plays for this team while drunk better than the current offensive coordinator. Same thing in Detroit. What a bunch morons.

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
Is there one factor that has been the true culprit for the Rams' woes?
Simply to many to mention, however IMHO, losing London Fletcher, and some of you guys may not like this. but we should have tried EVERYTHING we could to get Kyle Turley back, despite his spat with MM.
The Def AS NOT been the same without Fletcher, and can you honestly say that our OL as been anywhere near as good, when Turley was in?

Aeneas was something we could not control. He retired. He was getting up there in years. Fletcher on the other hand was just coming into his prime. That's why I think it hurt worse to lose Fletcher.

Plus, Aeneas wasn't playing well at all in his last year.

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
COACHING. Or lack of coaching killed this team. It has been killing this team for four or five years. Martz NEVER brings this team out of camp prepared. That is, prepared fundamentally. He drafts athletes, not players; he cares more about his system than the game.
When Jim Hanifan retired it was just the last damn straw. The last guy in town who knew the whole game.

Defensive coaching or the lack there of has created a terrible defensive team.

Re: What has the real problem been this year?
I will echo the most recent comments here and in another post of mine. The RAMS are never ready to play!!! They are not prepared.
In 99 the Rams always jumped out to quick leads of at least 14 pts in the first qtr. Then they got to dictate the rest of the game because the other guys were playing catch up and had limited options on offense.
Now we seem to lollygag and through up on ourselves in the first qtr and are left playing catchup. With a rookie QB and a beat up O Line you RUN THE BALL. RUN THE BALL. RUN THE BALL some more. You have a big strong tailback. Use him like a tailback. No he is not the complete player Faulk is but he delivers as much punishment as he takes. He will wear a defense down and be huge in the forth qtr.
Give the ball to Jackson, let the o-line punish people, give the defense some rest, run the clock.
My recipe for success.
Go Rams
