    What if Ryan Pickett...

Hey everyone, I was just wondering what you guys think...

What if Ryan Pickett went to the probowl last year, do you think we would've retained him because of that? I'm not sure if it really makes all the difference, but on the other hand, maybe if he went there, it would've made the Rams want him more.

    Re: What if Ryan Pickett...

From what I have read about Pickett and I am not saying that I know exactly what the whole situation is/was with him, Pickett had decided enough was enough for him at the Rams and that he was going to move. There is no way we will know if he would have signed if we had offered him a better deal than the Packers did. The other way I see it is that no matter how well any of our defence players played last year our overall performance as a defence was probably just ignored. Lets be honest we were horrible last year. From what I saw last year Pickett was good and as a NT type player he will be missed. We just have to hope that Kennedy can take the strain.

It sounded like he did have his mind made up to leave the Rams, but it also sounded like the reason for that was because he felt underappreciated. If he had been voted to a Pro Bowl, maybe he would have felt like he was getting the recognition he deserved or maybe the team would have shelled out the extra $300,000/year to match Green Bay's offer, but that's all behind us now.

He had Pro Bowl numbers last year as the was 2nd in the NFC in tackles for DT's. However, he was stuck on a bad defense, with a bad coaching fiasco last year, with a bitter taste of being the best of a somewhat bust first round fiasco three years ago.

He was a good, solid defensive player for the Rams who will be missed.

I dont think so. He did claim he felt treated badly by the Rams and wanted out.

Nope, would have made him even more expensive and harder to retain.

this is true, but I really think we would've tried to match Green Bay and anyone else ya know?

    Re: What if Ryan Pickett...

I think we did, as far as we could, but we were more on the side of 'one good season in five' and the packers were 'wow, he led the league in tackles at his position'.

He's a servicable DT, occasionally a pretty good one, but I'm always a little suspicious of guys who play well in a contract year after a couple of years of mediocrity and then say "I didn't get treated right" when offered a multi million dollar deal.

A pro bowl tag would have sealed his departure.
