What to make of these "Reports"

There has been many conflicting reports over the last few weeks about the status of Spagnuolo, and co. and surely will be until January 2nd. I tend to believe these reports, probably out of just sheer hope. No coach in the history of the NFL has been this historically bad for three years and gotten a fourth...it just doesn't happen. Then again, we are the Rams and defy the laws of sucking, so why not set a trend of keeping terrible coaches with a new owner?

Mike Karney's interview in which he noted Spags barely talks to the players during halftime, telling considering how poorly the team plays after the half - and it's pretty tough sell to keep the coach.
While I have not listened to the interview yet (Its 30 min long), this quote is telling. If true and not just the rantings of a bitter former player taking a shot at the coach who cut him, it explains a lot. Especially considering we look like absolute trash week after week in the second half of the Steve Spagnuolo tenure. No halftime adjustments appear to be made. I think, in trying to be unbiased, that Karney is telling the truth. This quote proves one thing, the man is a great defensive mind, but not a leader of a whole team.

13 days away from finding out if 2012 will kick off in a joyous way, or in a somber way.

    PASS!!!!

I'm not trying to defend Spags (I am ready to move on) but I'm not sure I would want to talk to that team at half-time. If I did my speech would be something like this...

"Here is your half-time adjustment. Run the same plays but without bone-headed decisions and bone-headed penalties! Oh and Sam. God I love you. But do me one favor. I will live with more interceptions if you promise to throw more passes above the waste."

It's classless to say you'll find joy with someone losing their job.

It's no wonder the Rams are outplayed after halftime on a regular basis.

    To respond to this,
    1) The man is making millions and doing an incompetent job.
    2) He will find a job immediately, as a defensive coordinator.
    3) Even if he takes a year off, he will be fine. His livelihood does not depend upon this. Hes a multi-millionaire.
    4) So you have never called for a player to get cut? If a player gets cut, due to talent, they are usually out of the league, and jobless. But calling for a coaches job who is a millionaire is bad?

I hope he gets fired, so I can start enjoying good Rams football again. The man will be just fine.

PS. The majority of Rams fans I suppose are classless, as the majority are going to be doing cartwheels when this nightmare (regime) is over.

Re: What to make of these "Reports"

im going to have to side with rambunctious here we are a team that just makes plenty of mistakes and get plenty of penalties (many which should be no calls)

I dont think that mike karney interview has anything to do with spags future...however his win total does

I dont want spags back as HC next year but i dont think you can call him a bad leader...look at what is happening to the vikings their are reports that players gave up last sunday which is something that isnt happening here...remember linehan? Torry Holt and Marc Bulger our leaders had arguments with him...bulger gave up on him.

I think spags will become a good HC one day but just not in St. Louis

No, it's classless to say that you're going to be happy and "joyful" if and only if he gets fired. It's classless to hate someone with such vitriol.

I didn't support Linehan, and absolutely thought he needed to go, but that was because it was evident that the players could not stand to play for him, and I didn't wish for him to lose his job. I wanted him to do well, to turn it around.

For me, it is the same with Spagnolo, though he is an infinitely better coach than Linehan. I keep wishing that wins would come. I keep supporting the team and all of its players and coaches. The players have not abandoned playing for Spags, and you can see the defense plays their butts off until the end when they get gassed. There's plenty to say about what Spags doesn't do right, but he built a better defense than the Rams have had since 2001. No one can deny that. The offense just never came for him, and that is his fault, as he is the head coach, but he took care of his speciality.

If and when he is let go, yeah, he's going to waltz into the Philly DC role, and he very well might win a super bowl ring next year. But just because you're jealous angry that he's going to win that ring while we rebuild and start making Sam into the next Alex Smith, it doesn't mean you have to "do cartwheels" when he is fired.

    Come on, man...

Am i reading this right, sometimes i miss the sarcasm with on-line conversations? what upon consulting with a few more braincells, i conclude it was sarcasm and wholly agree.

note: on whole classless / classy thing .. so what. some will be more happy than others, i will be quite mellow about the whole off-season, im more interested in the (maybe) replacement.

Thank you for just proving my point. If I knew the man depended on this HC job I would obviously be a little more compasionate, but the man is a multi-millionaire, who is going to get hired immediately you said it yourself

To call me classless over this is actually quite comical, considering I rarely ever complain when out at a restaurant because I am a nice person, and dont want the person who ACTUALLY depends on their job to get fired. To call someone you dont even know classless on a simple thread is classless. After all theres nothing classier than a good ole fashioned cheap shot on someones character.

Spags will be fine. But you are entitled to your opinion of me. I can only hope you continue your life with nothing but class.

Can we just get back to keeping this a football thread now?

    Thanks.

What to make of these reports is that everyone's guessing, and until the owner actually does something, everyone will continue to guess. I don't get the sense that anyone - local or national - really has a good read on what Kroenke is thinking or feeling about this situation. I think he's played it pretty close to the vest, but that won't stop reporters from hearing things from their "inside sources."

This is spot on. Only Stan knows for sure. We simply need to have patience to see what transpires. Really, whatever happens, we must be like the housing market......at bottom or close to it. We can only go up from here

Re: What to make of these "Reports"

Its almost a certainty that Spags and McD will be fired at season's end and no it costs nothing to speculate, consider, discuss and there may even be something in these 'inside' sources.

Its all opinion and that's something we specialise in here, or have to date anyway.

Re: What to make of these "Reports"

I never take joy in a guy losing his job, but at the same time my loyalty to a team supercedes my loyalty to an individual, and I want what is necessary for this team to become successful again. And it's painfully obvious that Spags and McDaniels are spinning their wheels here. As others have rightly pointed out, they'll be quick to land on their feet if they're dismissed.

As for the speculation, that's what reporters do; try to beat each other with some "scoop". Let's all take it with a grain of salt and simply wait 'till Jan. 2nd.
