Thread: What are our options?

What are our options?
It looks like Fisher is gone for the year. We have NOTHING in the talent pool but this Anderson kid from South Dakota and Garrett which looked promising as a nickel back.
Now what do we do? Do we move Williams back to corner and move Coady to safety; or Shivers? Looking at the free agents I see NOTHING but MAYBE Shane Walton (X-Ram), which could be an ok pick up at this weak moment. Other than that I am not sure what else we have. :disappoin

Re: What are our options?
Garrett and Groce seem the most likely replacements at CB.
Unless you want to sign Deion Sanders.

Re: What are our options?
Garrett looked solid in my opinion. The Chiefs went deep to his side early and he had it covered, and they also tried to go to the end zone and he had it smothered. Also made some stops in the running game.

Re: What are our options?
It still doesn't solve the problem with depth and nickel and dime packages. We can't survive the season with 2 corners.
P.S.-Sanders would NEVER play for this team!!

Re: What are our options?
Walton's a Steeler now, unless they cut him.
I would expect Garrett to take Fisher's place, to be honest. Aeneas will probably move down into the slot on nickel coverages like he did last season, and Shivers and Coady will rotate as FS in those situations. But I would imagine Garrett will take Fisher's spot as a starter and Anderson will be kept on the roster for depth.

Re: What are our options?
Well, if we think he's got more promise then someone like Anderson, let's go for it. I'm somewhat pessimistic about what Walton could do at CB for us since we tried to move him to safety.

Re: What are our options?
We've still got 4 CBs without devoting any to nickel packages. Butler and Garrett start & Groce and Anderson back-up. Groce is ready to go as is, Anderson will need a little time. Aeneas takes the nickel and Shivers/Coady moves to FS. What scares me is the dime package. Right now, Groce takes it, but if we lose Aeneas or any of the first 3 corners, dime is impossible. Which means we are going to see more spread formations, which will serve as a double-edged sword...expose our rookie DBs and stretch the interior D to allow for more between the tackle runs against a D-line that is suspect against the run at best.
Wow. Marmie has got his work cut out for him. I say forget about dime packages, leave it to nickel at the most, and blitz. If the QB can find an open receiver before the LB finds him, so be it...at least I can stomach that over this soft zone we've been toying with."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

I say we go with Anderson. Great wheels, appears to be physical. He's just raw, and I mean sushi, steak tar-tar, Rocky Balboa 6-egg protein drink, running a marathon in sandpaper underwear kind of raw. We've just got to hold our breath and hope for no more injuries to the DBs.

Plus, you have to remember that one of the main aspects of this defensive unit is speed. I take that to mean that we have some pretty speedy linebackers as well. If necessary, I'm sure one of them could at least keep up with some slot or possession receivers if we get dangerously thin at corner.

Re: What are our options?
The Fisher injury does present us with a problem. But I think we will be fine as long as the defense plays agressive and our d-line doesn't get pushed around. If everyone remembers, we were worried last year at this time when Williams got moved to safety. But Butler stepped it up and had a decent year. Hopefully one of our young corners will follow Butler's lead and step it up.
