What the passing game is missing
Big plays.
Has anyone else noticed the lack of post and in routes in our offense??
Over the years in Martz's system Holt, Bruce, Az, Ricky, Curtis all thrived with the skinny post or in routes. These passes are high risk, high reward passes. Everything in Linehans offense are outs, curls and fly's. Passes that are safe and predictable. As much as appreciate our coach not giving the ball away I would sure like to see a few passes that challenge the defenses. We have the best receiving corp. in the NFL, lets us them a little.
Re: What the passing game is missing
its true
while the low risk approach is a welcome change from the 20 interceptions a season that Bulger used to put up, every Rams fan wants to see deep passes to guys like Holt, Bruce and Curtis
Its the reason why Curtis hasnt done that well this year. Its hard to do great when you specialise in deep routes but the coach doesnt call them
Re: What the passing game is missing
You have to be safe with the football, but at the same time you can't become so obsessed with it that your offense suffers. It seems as if we went from an offense that took way to many risks, to one that takes to few of them.
Re: What the passing game is missing
And the deep passes that are thrown are fly patterns, which are most of the time over thrown *LOL*.

I think Curtis has been fine this year, the reason he doesn't have the numbers of last year is because Bruce is back, so Curtis gets less opportunities.
RW I agree I would like to see us throw a few deep post patterns.
Re: What the passing game is missing
there are no more patent martz's dig routes or deep hitches anymore which used to be a staple in our passing game

We use them very rarely, but we obviously have the guys to make them work. While they can be risky at times, Bulger, Holt and Bruce have them down to a science. We have plenty of short routes integrated into the offense, with some deep routes thrown in, but I would really like to see a lot more intermediate routes in the mix, especially with two of the best route runners in the NFL.
Re: What the passing game is missing
we are missing the TE,we need to get him more involved.
