Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
They say that offenses / defenses should be built starting in the trenches. Having good line plays makes the other parts jobs easier.
If only our D-Backs had been upgraded, teams could still run on us. Upgrading the D-Line makes it harder to run against us, frees up the linebackers to make plays, and makes the QB have to get rid of the ball faster, thus making the D-Backs job easier.
With that being said, I had to go with the D-Line.
This space for rent...

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
We went from the worst defensive backfield to potentially one of the best, sign me up for defensive backs.
Lets not forget, as much as the d line will help the secondary, an elite secondary will help the dline. Coverage sacks baby! ...something we haven't had in the Lou in a LOOONNNGGGG time.
ALSO: I almost went special teams, for the fact that we actually have people who can actually make big plays on returns. Givens, Pead, and Jenkins will all be in the mix as far as return duties goes. I almost forgot how gut wrenching it was watching Pettis try to catch punts
Had to downgrade the unit as far as the legs go, until the rooks prove themselves, something I have high hopes for.

This was too easy Av. The defensive backfield has the potential to be one of the best in the league if not the best. I don't believe we can say that about any other position on the team.

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
I went D-line. Picking up two starting DT's in free agency and then drafting Micheal Brockers. The Rams have youth on the D-line now. The DT position was sorry last year due to age.
The CB position is second. I hope both Drafted rookies cotribute right away. I just think there is a learning curve going from college to the pros. That leaves Rams with one starting CB Finnegan. He is pro ready. Two CB's comming back from injury. Two drafted rookies learning to play in the pros. Several undrafted rookies and bench players from last year.
The D-line is ready now when D-backfield is isn't. The D-backfield has better depth and will be a stength when the rookies mature.
Hopefully both drafted rookies become starters in the Rams backfield right away.

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
Gotta go with the d-backs. While Bartell will be missed, we landed a younger, more physical, and arguably more talented (depends on who you ask) replacement in Cortland Finnegan. We also added some needed depth in Jenkins and Johnson. What was a disastrous weakness in 2011 due to injuries may be among the team's strongest units in 2012 with Finnegan, Fletcher, Murphy, Jenkins, and Johnson.
With the d-line, we did upgrade the roster, but I don't know how much that translates into improvement in the short run. We dumped three retirement aged starters, two of whom were playing about as well as anyone in the league at their positions as recently as 2010. We're replacing them with a serviceable veteran, a rookie, and promoting a player already on the roster (which isn't exactly a roster improvement per se). When you kick in Hayes and Laws for depth, yeah, I think you can say the unit overall is improved, but it's almost as much a factor of the previous unit's near-inevitable decline.

Looks like the majority of us went with the D Backs. And believe me it's not going to hurt having Chuck Cecil coaching these guys up either! lol

My grandmother would have been an upgrade to Justin King... I think this pole should be "Besides the DB's..." Then it would be worth the vote.

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
DBs based off of simply health. Comparing last years starters fresh out of Training Camp (including Murphy) is still a significant upgrade.
I like a healthy Finnegan, Fletcher, Jenkins, Johnson, Murphy mix more than a Bartell, Fletcher, Murphy, King mix. (King REALLY drags down the latter's grade....)

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
Wow. I voted DBs but to read here that we might have one of the best sets of DBs, that's news to me!
I haven't looked at the rest of the secondaries in the NFL but again, to even think the Rams DBs are up there among the best -- even potentially -- has got to be one of the most exciting improvements in YEARS.
Wowzers.

Re: What unit of the roster has been improved the most this offseason?
Frank Gore had both knees blown out.
Edge James had a dramatic knee injury.
When he injured it this last time they said it wasn't major damage but the surgery was supposed to fix it. A lot of times these guys have the surgery and it comes back better than the original version. He worked out at the mini-camp so with 3 more months of lifting and working out, I'm confident he'll be ready to compete in August. I'd rather he be coming back after surgery than what Adrian Peterson will be doing.

I am obviously a minority here but I think our WR position was upgraded with Quick, Smith, and Givens. Plus we get a few from the DL back.
