Re: What are your thoughts about Fisher benching Steven Jackson?
I thought it was stupid. First it was not a 15 yard penalty as Jackson thought he had scored a TD so was entitled to spike the ball. Nuff said

I don't mind him doing it now that we won, because Jackson should be setting a better example
But if we had lost that... that's a different story!

If it was disciplinary the first half is ok, but all game?!? Stupid decision, which fortunately worked out.
Another stupid decision was not revieiwing the first TD grab by Gibson.
Still we won, but this discussion is about the benching.
Stupid. Stupid Stupid.

you guys would not be saying that if the fumble by the rookie had cost us the game.

Dislike the decision. I didn't see the actual video of it. Was Jackson fuming or did he think he got a TD? Either way, strongly disagree. Dislike.

I agree with it and judging by Jackson's body language, he did too. He knew better.

It sends a message that the coach is in charge of this team and no player is above being benched for actions detrimental to the team as a whole. It's something the last 3 coaches lacked. Yes Spags, Linehan, Martz. Vermeil would have done this. Look where it led.

Re: What are your thoughts about Fisher benching Steven Jackson?
My thoughts during the game were "well, he's trying to make a point, and Richardson is dominating so we'll see him again in the 4th quarter"...but when he wasn't in the game on that final drive I hated it. I don't know why you would risk a loss at that point.
Richardson isn't exactly a big guy, and that's what happens to smaller guys sometimes. I just don't see any scenario in which the right call is having Jackson on the bench when all you need is to pound out a few yards and hold onto the ball.

Re: What are your thoughts about Fisher benching Steven Jackson?
The play was over, the officials were sorting it out. If I remember correctly, Jackson raised his arms over his head to signal touchdown, the officials hadn't made a ruling yet, and then he spiked it. It's not as if he came out of the pile and spiked it right away. He waited and did it later, which kind of made it look like a move out of frustration IMO.

I think it is a difficult subject to discuss at this point, as we don't know what has been said on the sideline. If it was based solo on his spike (which seemed to be out of frustration) I think its pretty though to sit him for the game. Gibson didn't get the same treatment for his shove in week one.

Re: What are your thoughts about Fisher benching Steven Jackson?
I think the signal was this: We are getting out of control and killing ourselves with penalties. Jackson took the brunt of it because he committed the penalty after the rams had been struggling with them. However, what he did worked, the team settled down on the stupid penalties, and that wound up making a big difference in the game.
I'm sure Jax was very disappointed to be out of it, but he's the veteran on the team, and he needs to be the one to set the example that you don't take stupid penalties.
