I really dont know. Will we look in the draft? Even if not for this year, maybe grab a project for next year??

we should be looking at Casey Weigmann. He would seem like the perfect pickup. Getting older, so he wont be looking for a long term starting job, so decent enough to have someone learn behind him. But also likely to be fairly cheap, especially considering the contract Jeff Faine got from Tampa. Also has been in the Saunders offensive system during their time in Kansas City

apart from Weigmann i dont think there is anyone else available really. And the problem with the draft is that to draft a player to come in and start at center right away might likely take a pick in rounds 1-3, yet we have to many other positions that could do with some youth that picking a center is probably not an option

you have to think that fry wasbt doing well considering all the injuries we had and it took him like 13 or 14 weeks to even see the field

Jim Thomas said today in his column that the Rams were working on a trade for a center, but doesn't know who. Bernie also:

i think Incognito is more likely to be switched to center than Setterstrom. Incognito apparently has let it be known that he'd prefer to play center. But Wiegmann is a possibility - Rams want to find out if he's healthy and if he still has a strong desire to play.

My sense is that Wiegmann is the first option, but they want to see where he is, physically and mentally (whether there's still a strong desire to play). But from what I am told Incognito is more likely to be shifted to center if they go that route. Also some vague rumblings that they could pick up a center in a deal. Don't know who.

Didn't Fry start off the season on the Practice Squad. If so, it seems that bringing him up early on without being sure of being able to keep him up, when they were trying to groom him and develop him would have been a bit nonproductive. Had he not been able to hold his own to some degree, even in that poor situation, and having him occupy at roster spot that could be used for someone with more ability at the time, then trying to get him back off the roster and back on to the practice squad would have required him to clear waivers again. Why chance it. I think he'll be a decent player, maybe even toward the end of this coming season. But I think that may have been a pretty large part of why he didn't come up sooner.

link? i cant think who it could be, as any team trading him would have to have an available backup

since its a center, unless its someone very good, it cant be more than a late round pick if we do trade a pick

thats a really good point, and honestly i didnt think of it that way.

i thought of it as the setterstrom situation. it took setterstrom 10 weeks to get on the field and he produced pretty well, and romberg came in and started after a few weeks, so i was basing it on that, but you may be right

IIRC I read somewhere that Linehan believes that D. Fry's best position is guard. If that is the case then we really need to address the center position as we have nobody that is even being groomed to play it. I agree with Rams4life that Wiegmann-even for only one year-at this point makes a whole lot of sense.

    WHAT SAY YE?

Hmmmm youre right. There are ALOT of options for that position. It is a major need...

I reallly dont see where we would go for this. All aspects seem reasonable.
