Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
break his fibula again  just kidding!
I think the defense is much more improved and should be able to contain him better then they did in the 1st game.
the key is to keep him contained in the pocket as much as possible and force him to throw. if the Rams can force him to throw more than run, I like our chances.
he is not a great passer and his favorite target ( Crumpler ) will be covered by Polley.
if the Rams can make Vick mostly one-dimensional, they will win.
if they can't keep Vick in the pocket, they may lose.

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
I think there's several good options (Lake mentioned a couple of good ones above), but I would say hit him hard, early & often. He has not shown this league that he can be mentally tough. And nothing gets you more distracted than "hearing footsteps" after you've been knocked out of your jock.
Step 1. Hit him
Step 2. If he gets up, return to step 1.

Now this is a sensible idea. Much more so than rooting for that dysfunctional See@all_NOT team had they advanced. That aside, THIS is the game I might not blitz much in ... make him prove he can be a pocket passer.
And then if he still runs, let Polley show us whether he improved on his "clothesline" technique.

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
The key is putting the Bucs D on the field against him...other than them nobody has really "stopped" the guy over his NFL career. He may be somewhat rusty after playing very little over the last few weeks. Hopefully the Rams can knock him outta the contest somehow... a solid game by him(or us losing our QB) is the only way they beat the Rams...again.

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
Even if we have to give them 15 extra yards after the hit the first time he steps back to pass Little needs to drive him so far in to the ground they need a backhoe to get him out

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
Contain him inside the pocket and force him to throw. Keep him static on the inside and force him to make his reads. The only dangerous part of Mike Vick are his feet (IMHO). As a pocket passer, he is average. Keep Tommy on Crumpler, force Vick to look to the secondary long enough for the front four to collapse the pocket. Except for the rare corner, NO BLITZING! Containment and a good Cover Four (You hear me, Antuan?).

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
The "sack"--a term invented by Deacon Jones, of the L.A. Rams, to denote the play in which a single defender can cause the downfall of the whole offensive plan by tackling the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage--is the quintessential rock-and-roll play: it's about the triumph of the individual over the system.
Jones described the feeling of a sack as being "...like you devastate a city, or you cream a multitude of people. It's just like you put all the offensive players in one bag and I just take a baseball bat and beat on the bag."

Sounds like a plan to me! I wouldn't mind a couple of "roughing the passer" penalties on us.
At least as clean but HARD, h-u-u-u-m-p-h / Thump! POW! hits. The way they used to be (providing the penalties are not too costly to us). Not to hurt Vick, just to disrupt his game.
GO RAMS! :angryram:

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
We spy him with our fastest 2 players who are the surest tacklers much like todd lyght was. Archuleta comes to mind. The reason I say two players is so their not sure who to block on a designed Vick run. Our secondary is going to have to be alert and not bite to early on phony Vick runs. Damnit I wish we had some linebackers that we can count on. We Need to look at who has had success against vick and how they did it.

Maybe we can get one of those lame reporters to do something useful...
[Pre-Game] Bernie: "Hey, Pisa. What do you think Michael Vick meant when he said your mother is a poi-eating baboon?"

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
There was an article I read not too long ago that talked about how we didn't blitz him in our first contest and he burned us. Personally, I'd like to see heavy blitzing from this defense. I'd rather force Vick to run where we want him to run than where he wants to run. I'd be interested to see how Vick handles some complicated zone blitzes, but I suppose the real question is does Marmie have any complicated zone blitzes in that head of his?
And honestly, I wouldn't mind a roughing the passer penalty early in the game if it's going to keep him thinking about getting hit. That's probably not good to say, but still...

Re: What's the key to stopping Michael Vick?
Beat up his receivers and running backs, make them really not want the ball. If adams on his game, and no back pain hes gonna make'em pay,but look for torry to steal the show.
