    Where is Gilyard?

    Are we missing something?

What's going on with Gilyard? I don't think it is the fact that he hasn't learned the playbook yet. Danario Alexander contributed just fine, and he came in later than Gilyard. Mark Clayton was brought in late, and he immediately stepped in.

If he hasn't learned the playbook, can't the coaches give him some abbreviated routes, some simple routes to run, like they did with Alexander?

In most games, he isn't even on the field. When he is, it's only for a max of 8 plays.

He isn't even in most of the time for kick-offs.

So, where is Gilyard, and what is up with him?

(In no way am I calling him a bust, but it irritates me to see him not contributing when our WR is lacking playmakers.)

Think he just has a slow learning curve when he's doing something new. I've been there struggling also when I started grade school and it just all flashed to me as I progressed. He'll get there, Chris Long's finally having a breakout season and it didn't take till the '09 midseason to see that progression. Give the boy some time, Gilyard's slow learning curve reflects as to why he got his scholarship revoked when his grades were bad but he rebounded nicely, I'd like to see that in his NFL career also.

Sure could do with the rookie Gilyard contributing, I cant help feeling a little frustrated losing Clayton and Avery for the season. Gilyard is in good position here, the staff were using him in Detroit when Clayton went down. But since lost confidence in him, I think it has a lot to do with his temprament. I heard he was crying on the sideline one game through frustration?
Id love to see him make a play if given the chance.

I believe I read somewhere that he is being asked to learn every receiver position, so that could certainly be hindering his development.

I'm not worried about him though.

    Re: Where is Gilyard?

On a thread on Rams Talk (Post-dispatch) someone mentioned an interview with him, and in the interview he admitted to running wrong routes, making mistakes, etc. It's good to see him own up to his mistakes, but he will be lucky to be on the roster next year unless he really turns it around in these last 7 games.

He's with WALDO, good luck finding both of them.

If that is true, then that could certainly be the main factor.

I don't see why we would make Gilyard learn all positions though, considering that he is a rookie and such. Ease him in first.

    Re: Where is Gilyard?

I remember Spags saying something early on in the season along the lines of him needing to learn how to be a professional and take the time to learn the playbook, to which Gilyard responded something like "yeah he's right, it's time for me to grow up." From the outside, it just seems he's not putting the time in. That could be wrong, but whatever it is the Rams clearly do not trust him to be a key part of the offense. And I can't say I've seen anything that shows me different. For example, the only time I remember seeing him last game was when he muffed the kickoff out of bounds.

The "let him learn all the positions" idea was a decent one in the preseason. It wasn't "pressing" to get him on the field.

Then just about every talented wideout we had got injured. Suddenly that plan becomes a luxury. Unfortunately, its also a little late to realize that.

Yikes! That is NOT a good sign if true. It's got to be something more than just learning the playbook because he hasn't even returned a kick since the Chargers game. This kid has got to get his head straight.

He's not very good he would be warming a bench on any other team.

Speaking of kickoffs I'm shocked that we are making our #1 receiver do them...

Who knows what the issue is. It's strange that he was getting a catch or two a week there for a few games in October, and then just completely fell off the radar.
