My fav reply to a question that catches me off guard like that is " Excellent question, Timmy ! But I don't want to confuse things for everyone right now. We'll cover that next week..... Or I could set it as a mini-assignment to be completed by tomorrow? "

That usually shuts 'em up & often results in Timmy getting chewed out after class by his peers. A win/win, in other words.

If you can't dazzle 'em with your footwork, baffle 'em with your BS, especially the smart-alecks.

As someone who passed the 4th grade, I feel like you shouldn't.

Seriously, 4th graders are learning trig now?

"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod
