Who will be the next Ram player to make his first Pro Bowl?

I've had a poll like this in past years, and its interesting to see who gets the votes.

Right now, the only active Ram who has made a Pro Bowl is Steven Jackson.

Who will be the next one selected to his first Pro Bowl?

Re: Who will be the next Ram player to make his first Pro Bowl?

This was a tough choice for me.

I believe that Sam Bradford will make it eventually, but he may have to wait in line behind players like Aaron Rogers and Matt Ryan for a while before he gets to that point.

Chris Long played at a very high level last year and had great name recognition, but there's a lot of competition at DE and it usually goes to the players with the most total sacks, so he may have a tough time getting to the top of the pile, despite the fact that he's a better all-around player than some the sack artists.

Robert Quinn, on the other hand, is the kind of guy you could see having 30-40 tackles with 12-15 sacks, so he could have a chance early in his career.

Bartell and Fletcher will likely continue to fly below the radar as one of the better CB tandems in the league.

Jones is deserving, but I can't bring myself to vote for a punter.

So that leaves Saffold and Laurinaitis. I think Rodger could be a very good candidate, but might have an uphill battle as if the Rams' offense does not rise to the top of the NFC.

So my choice is JL. He has the numbers and the high profile necessary to get voted in. Also, if the Rams defense continues to play well as a unit, he could get credit for being the "quarterback" of the defense.

The tough part for JL is playing inside LB, which has a smaller representation than outside backers. He'll have to leap frog Patrick Willis and Jon Beason for sure, maybe Urlacher too, based off of name recognition.

Donnie Jones is truly the dark horse around here. He's really been impressive but then again McBriar averaged 47.9 yds last season. Hope Jones's leg gets stronger to give him recognition.

Jordan Gross, Tyson Clabo, Donald Penn, Chad Clifton, Jason Peters.

There you have the list of LTs either voted to and/or playing in last year's Pro Bowl for the NFC. That's not a hard group to crack in to, if you ask me.

    My vote's for Saffold.

I voted for Jason Smith. He is gonna stay healthy and start kicking ass and taking names. People are going to see why the Rams were so excited to draft this guy.

He'll be in the Pro Bowl ASAP and will remain a fixture for years to come.

So move over NFC RTs the Jason train has arrived!!!

    'Nuff said.

I went with Long at DE. I think J Lauratius will be over shadowed by P Willis and some of the other big name LB's. Sam B Could have a good shot if he can avoid the dreaded sophmore slump.

I chose Saffold, he was brilliant last season at LT for a rookie. JL is good but is not quite there physically.?

I agree completely. Rodger was very close as a rookie, he'll get there in a year or two as a backup.

Re: Who will be the next Ram player to make his first Pro Bowl?

To make the pro bowl these days you need two things, popularity, first and foremost, and then a distant second, to have a good year. This can be illustrated by Logan Mankins making the Pro Bowl last year despite holding out for half of it.

Therefore, my selection is Chris Long. He's the best known player on the Rams, short of Bradford, but won't have to deal with locks of Brees and Rodgers and then probables of Vick, Ryan, Manning. Now, Sam should get like 4th or 5th in the votes this year, imho, so he may go as an alternate.

But the first to get a real invitation to the party in Hawaii will be Chris. He has a history of absolutely blowing up in his 4th season(both HS and College), is now in his correct spot(as shown by his career best sacks last year and at one point leading the league in hurries), and now is not necessarily the most scary guy on our front four. Long and Quinn are about to be the league's next Mathis and Freeney. That combined with his Dad's popularity and his own growing rep will get him the invite.

I voted for Chris Long. He's been making an impact on the field, is showing steady improvement, and I like his odds of breaking through onto the Pro Bowl roster more than guys like Bradford or Laurinaitis who may have trouble bypassing bigger names at their respective positions.

This is a good point. Never really thought about the qb of the defense aspect, but you're right .. If the defense continues to play well - keeps improving, he'll get additional credit there too. I voted for Chris Long by the way. I think he has the best odds making his first Pro Bowl all things considered. Heck, if we somehow win our division and actually win a playoff game, they could both go !! Why not dream a little ...

I chose Sam Bradford because it would mean more for the team as a whole than anybody on the list.
