Who will we cut tomorrow?
So, just got done reading that Derrick Mason, Willis McGahee, Kelly Gregg, and Todd Heap.. gone. All will be cut tomorrow to save cash, sign young talent, and get under the cap.
With that being said, we have a lot of potential cuts ourselves tomorrow.
To get this info, google USA TODAY RAMS SALARIES. Since we can't post links, n all.
These numbers are old, but I can't find new ones. Anyone find the new salaries for this year?
Who is going to get the ax?
I could see guys like James Butler gone for sure. Hell, our kicker is going to count around 3 million to the cap (3 million).

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
So many numbers lol, but from that list, I would probably cut Marc Bulger, Brooks Foster, Alex Barron, and Adam Carriker just to name a few

In all seriousness, it could very well be the end of the Mardy Gilyard experiment. Wouldn't be surprised to see Brandon Gibson get the axe as well.
Though I believe we are currently under the cap, and can carry 90 players, so I wouldn't be surprised if we don't cut anyone for awhile.

C Jason Brown: $4 millionLast edited by Nick; -07-25-2011 at 10:00 PM.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
I could see Bell going as I don't think he's an elite, 6 million dollar guard.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
I could see Bell going as well. And I hope he does. He is replaceable for a much cheaper salary.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
It's easy to say that, but much harder to find that guy at a cheaper salary.
Cutting Bell creates a hole where the Rams don't need one, especially if they feel the way many fans do and think they need to upgrade their other guard spot as well. Do they really want to spend this brief free agency period looking for TWO new starting linemen?
Unless the Rams are really strapped for cap space, which I don't think is the case, I don't see them cutting Bell. In fact, I'm not convinced they really make many "cap saving" cuts this year. There really isn't a contract on that list, IMO, that screams cap casualty.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
I can't see any surprise cuts like Baltimore is doing coming from the RAMs. They don't have the salary issues that the Ravens do. The RAMs did that two years ago.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
Devaney and Demoff have done well. Whether they anticipated this pandemonium happening or not, they've really structured the team the right way. It looks like we won't have to cut any impact players, and have room to operate with our cap space.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
I think we should rework Bell's contract. He clearly shouldn't be paid like he currently is but cannot be released because we are already shopping for a guard.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
Does Bradford's signing bonus count against the cap?
If not and you're telling me Sam only counts $405,000 against the cap... then wow I love Kevin Demoff even more.
And I agree, Bell has certainly not played up to that contract.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
I wonder if Bell gets more of a thrashing around here than he deserves. I've read a few articles that named him as our best offensive lineman last season.

Re: Who will we cut tomorrow?
Did I misread the breakdown of key dates or will cuts not happen until Thurs afternoon?
Pretty cool, methinks, because you can negotiate with FAs starting tomorrow -can't sign until Fri eve- so you can have a good idea of who ( whom?) you could get before making any cuts. I think teams will be conservative but a frenzy of speed-dating, NFL style, is possible,I guess.
In that scenario, there's only a handful of guys who are locks to stay, obviously.Dunno that money will be the deciding factor . If they pick up a stud guard, I think they'll put Goldie on the bench, keep Bell who played pretty well most of the time last year, imo, & let Greco get his act together elsewhere. Don't really see any starters under contract getting the chop except maybe Butler, if you can even call him a starter anymore. I'd feel better with another smart vet in the backfield ( Sharper?) even if it's a training wheels kind of deal.Ditto @ LB where I think they'd keep Diggs even if they sign another OLB.
Edit ps : my cross-positional wild card: Gilyard will be cut if they sign Sproles. The returner job, in other words. DS is a better proven commodity & the double value would justify the relatively big contract for a back-up/secondary RB it might take to get him, imo. You're putting the ball in a guy's hands 12-15 times or more a game with both jobs & with Sproles, he's a threat to score every time. Not Mardy-bashing but he's got a lot to prove to top that for me, never mind justifying the same base salary as Bradford.Last edited by Azul e Oro; -07-26-2011 at 06:08 AM.
