why did we punt twice on fourth down in the 4th quarter?

Down by 21 on the road to green bay in the 4th quarter. Why are we punting on 4th and 4 around midfield? Why did we punt on 4th and 10 from the green bay 40? Field position game? You have to be kidding. The packers were not sharp on offense in the second half and had some big drops, which contributed to us stopping them, but they were still burning time off the clock. That being said, how could spags think that we would have three more possessions to score 3 tds, something we havent been able to do all year? How about trying to win the game rather than trying to keep the score close.

The 4th down play I didn't like was to go deep to DX on 4th and 2 early in the game. I liked that we went for it, but their was a 2nd and 1 earlier in that drive that I would have liked to see that play. Figures, the one time they go aggressive, was a really low percentage bad time to run that play. We should have 10 plays in the playbook designed to get 3 or 4 yards that we can use on 4th and 2. Or even a run there might not have been terrible.

I also felt there was time for a quick shot into the end zone right before the field goal.

He probably was worried that it might be intercepted or fumbled and wanted something positive to build on for the second half.

If I were Stan I would come down from his luxury suite go over to Spags, take the headphones from him and tell him to get your ass out of here,I know there are some who will jump on me for this but Spags quit,plain and simple, when you are down 3 touchdowns in the fourth quarter and you are on there side of the field(field position doesn't really matter at that point) and you punt, you just gave up, he did it in the giants game also, we were not going to win either game and most likely would have not made the first down,but you don't give up, sends a horrible message to your team and we wonder why they play like they do,wonder no more,ok, go easy on me I am venting,thanks

A part of me wants to just say it's a defeatist attitude, but I think it's more than that. Spags just isn't one to think outside the box. Oh sure, he'll mix up the blitzing scheme, but he's so risk-averse when it comes to calling individual plays, that he isn't seeing that the overall effect is a strategy that pushes the likelihood of winning from slim to almost impossible.

A perfect example of not seeing the forest for the trees.

At this point I'm not suprised by anything Spags does, but I am convinced that he doesn't have a Head Coach's pedigree. I don't agree with, nor like his philosophy or approach to the game. Never have and never will.

I'm just waiting patiently for him to run his course and disappear, in favor of a proven head coach.

My thoughts exactly when I saw this. But then I am not an NFL coach and do not have the wisdom that MCD and Spags have so I am certain there is more to it then we think. I mean come on, why go for 3 yards when you can go for the whole enchilada? Seems like no brainer to me but WTH. I am just a fan.
