Why didn't the Rams see James Butler's potential back in 2005?
James Butler went undrafted out of Georgia Tech, and then signed with the Giants as a FA. Two years later, he's a starter on a Super Bowl winning defense (leading the team in tackles that day). Now, he's a free agent, and if the Rams want him, they'll have to pay him.
If only the Rams had seen the potential in 2005. Then again, I suppose nobody really saw his potential at that point...
Well, almost nobody.
Maybe, this time, they'll listen.

Re: Why didn't the Rams see James Butler's potential back in 2005?
We did indeed (some irony there).
For those who are wondering, I had us taking Jamaal Brown in Round 1. He, of course went earlier to the Saints, leaving Alex Barron as the Rams' choice.
We also took O.J. Atogwe in Round 3, and Jerome Carter in Round 4 (that's where we really should have taken Butler) so I was on target with the Rams taking a safety.
It would be awesome if we ended up with all three (Bartell, Atogwe and Butler) this year.Last edited by AvengerRam; -03-02-2009 at 08:12 PM.

Can you tell me then how he went undrafted then if you had him in round 2? makes no sense to me what so ever.

And why didn't anyone see Ron Bartell's potential before the season?
Forgive me for going slightly off-topic, but it still fits in line with a shameless self-promotion.

Re: Why didn't the Rams see James Butler's potential back in 2005?
While we are all patting ourselves on the back I thought i would mention that I used to work with this guy at the grocery store. We were stocking shelves and I was working in the peanut butter/jelly aisle. As i was stocking I noticed i was one jar of Peter Pan Peanut Butter short. I yelled, "Hey you, toss me some more peanut butter." That peanut butter hit me in stride and right at the numbers. I told him he should play football. A year later he is superbowl MVP!!

Re: Why didn't the Rams see James Butler's potential back in 2005?
Awe Shut up! Want to know why? Rams had No/Zero PRO scouting. Also I find it intresting to see all those that can read the past. Damion Lewis, Adam Archuleta tell me we did not fall for that! To this day I still shudder when I hear the word D line. I still want Raji out if BC though.. Someone cute please hold me now.
Go away Avenger..

Re: Why didn't the Rams see James Butler's potential back in 2005?
It would of been awesome to land all three, but i don't think Butler would of been a stud for us. It was a good thing he went to the Giants so he can learn things from a good Defensive coach steve Spagnolo. . . and its just me, but i like Jerome carter when he came out! He was pretty good, i loved watching him at Florida state, and flordia state is known for good defensive players
