Why does everyone hate Martz?

I'm just wondering I love the guy. He is a good coach I think and I don't blame the Playoff losses on him. Face it last year vs the Falcons I knew we would lose we had no chance and the year before against the Panthers. If Holt wouldn't have tried to showboat that catch that went for one hand he would have caught it with two hands. But really why doesn't anyone like him?

Not all hate Martz, just the ones who don't, sometimes need to point to the old,"I told you so" stuff, but not all.
As I don't think Martz is the greatest coach, I love what he has done for the Rams since 1999. I would like to see him back for another 5 years. With a new DC for sure.

we "hate" others when we recognize what we "hate" about ourselves in that person...

or...we just have way too much free-time on our hand not doing anything particularly useful...

I enjoy Martz as a coach. Not only do I like the kind of football he has the Rams playing - the exciting pass first offensive style - but I also like that he's not the same old boring coach like most of the teams in the rest of the league have. Martz gets upset and he'll tell you like it is, even if he looks kind of stupid doing it. Plus, he's brought success to the team, which is harder than some would have you think in this league. He's had his share of mistakes, and I think he needs to be roped in regarding defensive hirings, but I find many more positives than negatives.

IMO and many others it's his arrogance. However, that is something I love about Martz. If you want to be the best you have to believe your the best....... So he ruffled a few feathers he's still the best offensive mind coach in the NFL.....

I really think for a lot of us it is a love / hate relationship. I can't name another coach that I would guarantee could do a better job. A better job at coaching this team or at frustrating me.

For that reason alone, I have decided that even though I am about to rip my heart out each week, I want him back. He may be a freakin idiot at times, but hey, he's our freakin idiot.

People tend to hate what they don't understand. And I don't believe there's a person on this planet (outside of Mrs. Martz) that understands Mike Martz.

Part of why so many hate Martz, IMHO, is that his media image sucks. MM doesn't kiss the a**es of the media, nor does he play the "spin" game (when you lie to the media in a way that makes a great story). Since the media only cares about a great story and not the truth, they hate MM because he makes their job tougher to do. You'll see the same kind of bitterness in the media towards all the coaches that don't play the media game.

As to Rams fans hating MM, I don't hate him, I just think that he has been an ineffective head coach. Great offensive coordinator, but in trying to do both jobs (head coach and calling plays) he has not been as effective in either as he could have been.

I've been tough on Martz in the past, but it's only because I always thought he had it in him to be a great head coach, and it frustrated me that he couldn't or wouldn't realize that potential. I hated some of the things he did, but never hated the man. Now I'm getting that "don't know what you got 'till it's gone" feeling, and it's not a good one. This whole situation is disturbing.

HUH? Im not sure ANY coaches 'kiss the a$$es of the media'. I can name two right off the top who essentially DESPISE and regularly ridicule/berate the media and they are always lauded as 'great' coaches: Parcells and Bellichick...two of the most surly, no nonsense people in the game. Bitterness toward these guys? Since when?

Lets get one thing straight...the media has better things to do than "hate MM because he makes their job togher to do". Media conspiracy...puuuuulease. His REPEATED, BUMBLING ANTICS during his tenure have caused him(and the Rams) to be taken less seriously than many other coaches/teams IMO. He inherited a WORLD CHAMPION and has led them to where they are today. His 'media status' is about exactly where it deserves to be.

Fargo, love reading your posts man...but how in the world can you say he "inherited" the Super Bowl team? I mean, don't you think that maybe Martz had something to do with "building" that Super Bowl team? It didn't just happen because Vermeil was on call I grant you. Look at Vermeil's record prior to Martz. It was one of the worst records in the Rams history. It wasn't Vermeil who brought in Faulk, he wanted nothing to do with him. Didn't like his practice ethics. Also, Vermeil was a hair close to frustrating Bruce to the point of he almost wanted out.

The man lost most of that defense due to age and salary cap limitations. Blew up the horrible defense in 2000 and went about constructing a Super Bowl caliber defense just to see it go pffft due to salary cap limitations again.

This stuff about him dismantling/inheriting a Super Bowl team is just bunk.
