butler used to be in the doghouse in lovie smith's system then finally got out of it and proved to be a pretty solid corner... for a couple of years butler was the best corner on this team then he tears his knee and the rest is history...

i think its a mixture of things...he found himself down the depth chart in the beginning due to him coming off a year on IR and Linehan & Haslett had to have insurance for the CB position so stockpiled it...it cant be taken for granted that he`d return to his pre-IR form!
then theres the whatever has or hasn`t gone on behind the scenes but if he had shown enough to haslett and Linny in the year he has been fit,both in play,work ethic and general attitude to work himself back up the depth chart we wouldnt be discussing the reasons for his probable june cut now!

butler sucks, he was never a good corner. and is nothing more than a 3rd down corner in his prime if 2 mil is too much then his time here has been too long bring on the 6th rounder for him. see if mad mike and the lions want to bring him with fisher again

I think the decision boiled down to the fact that Butler never made the effort to prove he deserved the starting job. Maybe he felt entitled based on past performance, or maybe that's just the impression the coaches got from him. It's also possible that while Butler was one of our better corners in a cover-2 scheme, he might not have been able to adapt to a scheme that required more man coverage. Haslett seems to want to play a scheme where he can blitz a safety or even a corner when he feels like it.

I don't know, but it may have a little something to do with not showing up for work? I know that would tick my boss off.
