Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
If any of you have followed my previous posts you'll notice that I mostly post about the Tight End position. I honestly feel that utilizing TEs properly WILL get ANY team a scoring offense. They are the utility guys, they are the go to guys, they are usually the most athletic guys on the field. These days they are beasts, the size of linebackers, speed of wide receivers.
Just look at the teams that are exploding this year, the one thing they all have in common is that they have key TEs. Just look at the stats and look at how MANY TEs had touchdowns last weekend. Unfortunately we have gone up against two big tight ends these last two games and we STILL arent using ours. Carlson and Cooley handed it to us! There is nothing our or any team's offense can do about their size and athleticism!
SO MY QUESTION IS...Why arent we learning what works from the teams we play? We have TINY receivers! The TEs should be bailing us out of third downs and red zone plays! If Randy cant cut it we need to use Fells and/or Bajema. They are two young hungry guys that can both block and catch and consistently and cause match up problems.
There were a hundred coach and player interviews this offseason about the west coast offense and how the TE plays a key role...so what is going on? I dont get it. Real frustrated that our defense continuously bails our offense out and then offense can't finish the job.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
Randy was targeted today and had a couple of drops, one for a TD. Hard to rely on a tight end who can't catch the ball. Fells was in and had a false start on a short yardage third down, making it 3rd & 6. Carlson is a young up and coming tight end, and Cooley is one of the top tight ends in the game. If the Rams had that kind of player, I'm sure they'd be utilizing him.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
I hear you but at the same time we saw really good things from both Bajema and Fells in the preseason. I think there is potential there that isnt being tapped into. YES, it was preseason, but they are both two players that can make grabs undisputedly. Mcmichael had a couple drops last game, a drop in the end zone that was well defended BUT should have been caught today as well as a blatant drop in open field today. We need him to step up big time.
I'm watching the Steelers/Bears game right now and the back up TE sfor BOTH teams have scored touchdowns. Davis and Spaeth are not beasts or amazing TEs. They're just being used properly! The are literally proving my point as I type this.

Sheesh guys, it's week two. And we did improve over week one. Get the trophy out of your head, and let this young team grow...

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
McMichael is now officially on my watch list. It comprises of:
Jason Bell, Randy McMichael, and I am going to have to add Chris Long. He's got to start stepping up and getting to the QB.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
Lets not forget the fumble for mcmichael which was negated by the penalty. He was awful yesterday, i should have put him on the list with avery. The dropped td was terrible, it hit him in the hands, as did the ball on the last drive that he dropped.
ramming speed to all

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
I think the only reason is fear of sending that out because our line isn't doing the job blocking yet.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
I think we did try to incorporate McMichael yesterday, but he didn't step up to the plate. He had two drops, one for a touchdown. Also, McMichael is a horrible blocking TE IMO, and he's just average aside from that. I do agree with you though, a little more McMichael involvement defiantly won't hurt us. Hopefully he can come through for us though.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
I got to reconsider Long. He's not on the watch list, but I hope he starts getting some pressure on the QB.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
The Rams should try to get a college basketball player that couldn't make it to the NBA. The best TE's are in NCAA basketball. Big and extremely athletic guys that played football in high school and it wouldn't hurt anybody to try to make a project out of a guy like that.

"Why no TE involvement for the Rams?"
Dropped balls. According to NFL.com, Randy McMicheal was the intended target on 5 of our 28 pass attempts (17.8%). He caught two of them. Had he caught more, they might have thrown to him some more.

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
I think we should've thrown to Fells more. He's supposedly a "sleeper" so show us why

Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Re: Why no TE involvement for the Rams?
i agree we need to see what fells can do for us. today i saw stats on how chiefs and browns are really struggling on third down conversions and its due to the fact that they lost tony g and kellen winslow. we gotta see what we have in fells to decide whether or not its gonna be a need in next years draft or free agency.
