Re: Why are people so sure Bulger is set in stone as starter?
I suspect the reason nobody takes Boller seriously as a competitor for the starting job is the same reason he was still on the market weeks after free agency started. After 5 years and 42 starts in the league, few would argue he has accomplished much of anything. As has already been mentioned, even if the Ravens' receivers are less than stellar, others have done more with the same supporting cast. In fact, you could argue that with that defense, the pressure was off. And when Jamal Lewis was in his prime, teams would play 8+ in the box all the time.
I mean honestly, for a guy with a rifle for an arm, 6.0 yards/attempt is terrible. Actually, for a guy with a pea shooter for an arm, that's still pretty bad. Not quite Alex Smith bad, but close.

It's a one year deal per Jeff Gordon

Re: Why are people so sure Bulger is set in stone as starter?
There is no question in my mind that this is a big year for Marc Bulger. As far as I'm concerned, he has a lot to prove, having taken a significant step back shortly after signing a nice deal for himself. Certainly, injury and a porous offensive line have contributed to his erratic play, but clearly he must take responsibility for many of his own failures. There are some who would have us believe that Bulger had nothing to work with the last two years, and that's just a complete crock of you know what. Truth be told, he played poorly even with a healthy Steven Jackson and an improved o-line.
That said, he is far superior to Kyle Boller, who is a very solid backup, but no threat to take Bulger's job, barring a complete meltdown.

RamWraith posted it himself...
Rams sign QB Boller"We think he's a good fit for us backing up Marc," general manager Billy
Devaney said. "He's a young guy that still has a ton of ability and a lot of
upside. This is a really good pickup for us."
