Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
With Looker out I was hoping someone we would be keeping around for the regular season would get some practice holing for Wilkins. To my dismay our backup up punter Fred Capshaw, #4, was doing the holding. We can't possibly be keeping a backup punter for the regular season, so why have him doing the holding? I was confused.
With Stanley and Hagans looking as goods as they are, I wouldn't mind if Looker was shown the door, but with him being the only holder, he is almost a lock. So why not use the time he is out to get someone we are keeping around some in game holding experience?Last edited by RamFan_Til_I_Die; -08-19-2007 at 07:23 PM.

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
Not much glory in being a holder is there. The only time you get noticed is when you screw up ... If you perform your job correctly you can remain in oblivion. Wilkins has the nickname "Money" in part because of Dane's efforts but he receives no credit. Beyond being a holder, Looker is a solid special teams player (we missed him last night), and a fearless receiver who knows what is expected of him in that role. He has come up with critical 1st down catches on more than one occasion, and has Linnehan's and Bulger's trust in that capacity. True he is not a burner/deep threat type, but he makes plays more often than not when called upon. Someday he'll get replaced, but right now I view him as an assett -- not a liability ...

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
Totally agree, 100%! I hope Looker will be, as he is now, an integral part of the 2007 Rams FG formation along with Wilkins and Massey, his close partners. Absolutely.True he is not a burner/deep threat type, but he makes plays more often than not when called upon. Someday he'll get replaced, but right now I view him as an assett -- not a liability...

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
Tough but good question, RFTID! :\
I'd like us to keep one of those new, fresh-blood WR, perhaps Derek Stanley. Now, how are we going to do that?
That's a mighty hard homework assignment for the coaches! :xLast edited by RealRam; -08-19-2007 at 09:26 PM. Reason: RFTID's name

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
It's a tricky situation with Looker. He has good hands but not that much upside. He's always been a fourth or fifth receiver. If any of these guys look like they could be more than that, I think we have to find a way to keep them.

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
Looker is not going anywhere. The Rams NEED him for those FGs, he hasn't screwed one up yet (the one missed extra point was a bad snap, and didn't count as a fumble on Looker or a miss on Wilkins). He's not a bad WR either, just never gets a big chance.
The Stanley/Hagans choice will come soon enough.
1. Holt
2. Bruce
3. Bennett
4. Hall
5. Looker
6. Stanley/Hagans
I feel the loser of that battle will be on the practice squad. Oh, and One of those two may be the #4 or 5 WR, just to keep Looker for backup/emergency situations and for his special teams part.

Re: Wilkins Newest Holder/Looker's Replacement
For what it's worth did you guys realize looker didn't even have one catch last season?

1. Holt
2. Bruce
3. Bennett
4. Hall
5. Looker
6. Stanley/Hagans
-- Keenum
:r A strong list, for sure!
Dante Hall being projected maily for ST, I would feel good about keeping Looker in a WR "reserve" mode and try out the 'may-the-best-man-win' player between Stanley and Hagans as 5th receiver, even 4th. Kind of a Shaun McDonald case of a couple of years ago (either Stanley or Hagans might be better).Last edited by RealRam; -08-20-2007 at 05:10 PM. Reason: Spelling bee
