Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
I don't know if it matters since he is out of the NFL this year but it seems Williams is in more trouble.

I listened to the audio. The question is what the Rams do about holding the job.

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
So the question is, is giving a speech like that illegal, or only if you are also offering money for the injuries? Because I guarantee that Williams was not the first D-coordinator to tell his guys to knock the QB or RB, or whoever the best offensive player is out of the game.

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
His indefinite suspension may have just gotten a little longer because of the PR hit and the NFL focus on concussions.
It's long known and recognized that teams target previous injuries in the NFL and NHL, it's accepted and normal practice. Teams go to significant lengths to hide the specifics of some injuries so they can't be targeted. Especially in a time where the NFL is cracking down on head trauma, it's pretty silly to talk about targeting someone's head.
What idiot allowed a copy of this speech to be leaked from their control?

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
WOW, I am going to give that speech to my employees everyday!
One thing came to mind immediately was the reference to war and the GSOT days. Vermeil referenced war in a speech one time and we actually had a war veteran on the team who told him something to the effect of "Coach, I have been to war and it's not fun. Football is fun coach". He never did refer to football as war again.
But I digress, except for the reference to actually permanently damaging someone, not sure if it's all that bad of a speech."The disappointment of losing is huge!"

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
I think it is funny that the Saints lost that game. Maybe they should have focused more on "Hitting Vernon Davis!.... Oh (Expletive), he is way to fast and too strong!"
After all this, I hope the Rams cut ties and just remove the negitive press around the Rams.

His career is now officially over. The Rams need to cut ties immediately. The Saints also can forget about their appeals.

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
No matter the context, neither the team nor the league will likely allow this around them. He's probably gone from the Rams, and maybe even the league. Too much negative press around this one to let him off any easier.

I'm maybe the only one. But that is a good speech! Motivational

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
Wow. Go for the head every chance you get, during and after the play, kill the head, before you get off the pile, affect the head, we need to decide how many times we can beat the head, get that MF on the sideline, go for the ACL, go for the ankles, I'll get the first one (money). Just wow.
Many here said nothing wrong with hard play, or even a bounty because everybody does it. Most here said intent to injure was a different story and would be unacceptable. Williams admitted it all, and denied nothing. Does anyone still have a doubt that Williams encouraged his players to injure opponents, and pay them for it? Is it still unacceptable?
This situation just keeps going from bad to worse. The Rams don't need any part of it.Last edited by r8rh8rmike; -04-05-2012 at 01:08 PM.

Re: Williams urged Saints to injure specific *****
I fail to see how this audio brings anything new to the table in the Williams discussion. Did any of you think he politely was asking his players to just go out there and hurt any random player on other team? Cause I sure didn't, this is pretty much what I figured it was from the start. I don't see the audio changing anything, as I'm sure NFL had this before also.
