Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

Many think that the Rams will one day regret letting Kurt Warner go.

So which player was the "one that got away" that the Rams lived to regret the most?

Re: Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

If we lose orlando pace in the next year, given his value and the fact that he is at the peak of his career, he will be the all time answer.

Cool Re: Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

Tough to choose just one from that list. I know I was upset when the Rams didn't keep every one of the players mentioned. The players listed were Rams during the pre-cap era and that made it tough to accept. The Rams were basically "cheap" during those years. Since the salary cap was implemented, it has been a little less frustrating watching players get away. I still don't like to see them go, but it is certainly more understandable.

Re: Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

Dickerson would be the easy choice, but the Rams got a lot in return for him. That's why I went with Drew Hill, who had a great career after leaving the Rams, and the Rams got zilch in return.

One name I forgot to put on the list for some unknown reason - Jerome Bettis. He certainly had some productive years after leaving the Rams.

Actually, Bettis has rushed for 1,000 yards six times as a Steeler.

Re: Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

I'll still stick with Hill, though. After four years in which he barely made an impact with the Rams, he went to Houston and averaged 68 receptions, 1,068 yards and 7 TDs over the next seven seasons.

Re: Worst "One That Got Away" Scenario

How about george allen? That was a very very painful loss for me as a fan. He went on to win titles and we struggled badly for a couple of years after he left. We also never got over the hump with ground check while george allen succeeded with washington. Also roman gabriel had some great times for the eagles after we let him go for basically nothing.

Seeing hacksaw in a whiners uniform was pretty tough too.

Those are some good choices, especially Hacksaw.

Look at his average over those years though. It's not great by any standard.

And it's not exceptionally difficult to get 1,000 yards in a season, when you think about it. Sixteen games per season with 65 yards per game gives you over 1,000 yards.

Productive, perhaps in the sense that he didn't totally bomb. But I don't regret letting him go based on what he did in Pittsburgh.

Nick, between 1996 and 2001, Bettis averaged 87.5 yards per game, 1298 yards per season, and 14.8 games per season. But stats aside, I would think just getting nearly 15 games in a season from a RB is saying something these days.

Nolan Cromwell. How we ever let him get into the Slackers organization is beyond me.

I thought you were talking about members of the opposite sex.
I would say Mr. Dickerson. He was the Rams O at the time and in his prime. We sure could have used him in 89'.
