Would you keep or cut Quintin Mikell?

Quintin Mikells contract is turning out to be a hot topic on this forum for the past few days. I see many advocating cutting him to free cap space. If we keep him, his $6 million dollar salary will count $9 million against the cap. Im not exactly sure how much we save cutting him, but obviously it'll be in the millions. If somehow knows how much we would save, share!

Also, im going to leave out the option on restructing his contract, which is very possible, because I think that would be the obvious choice. So its keep him or cut him.

Mikell's 2012 stats: 101 combined tackles, 4 FF, 3.0 sacks, 0 int

I'd keep him.

Hes played very well in the box this year against the run and has been solid in blitz situations.

He's not the greatest in pass coverage, but thats why we need to target a young ballhawking FS in the draft.

While we could save some dough by cutting him, we'd just open another hole that he filled quite well.

Depends on what we do at FA and the draft. If we don't get at least 2 safeties in the offseason, then I would consider keeping him. Other than that I don't think he's worth the salary cap damage so I'm hoping we address both safety positions in the offseason. Let him go play with the Saints where he'll flourish in Spags's system.

Id keep him because he is a very good if not 1 of the best in the box safetys,and if we can get some1 to play the pass and roam we can keep him in the box all day.Not to mention hes is a good in run support

If we can get a guy like Jairus Byrd or Louis Delmas in free agency, I'd part with Mikell. I'd love to pair one of those two Safeties with a draft pick like Matt Elam, would make a lethal duo, and probably rounds out a top 5 secondary in the league.

I think he did a great job at safety. I'd keep him.I dont know much about salary cap and contracts, but I am assuming that you would have to buy him out of his contract. Not sure if that is going to help our financial situation.

I am assuming that his $8 MIL has already been locked in. That mean $6 MIL cap hit if cut before June 1, and $3 MIL if cut after June 1, but another $3 MIL in 2014.

So that being said and Fisher being more defense inclined its likely a good possibility Mikell will be a Ram in 2013.

So, Does SJax count 1.9 against next year if he doesn't resign with the RAMS, or did that 1.9 get rolled into last year on the restructure?

Honestly I haven't a clue whats on FO's mind when it comes to the salary cap or S. Jacksons deal he struck several seasons ago. All we have is a statement earlier from Ram's FO that they will let Jackson try the market as a free agent. Letting him go ends that $44M contract--logical enough but what Fisher and the FO are thinking is everyones' guess. All we know is that if the Rams are true to their word there ought to be more money in the war chest for 2013. Perhaps the Rams hope to redo the deal with Jackson at a lower salary or think they can get better going younger and cheaper. Besides us fans, I wager the rest of the NFC-West wanta be a fly on the wall to know the teams thinking

I'd like Mikell back, as up in the box he did massively well towards the end of the year, both in the run game and rushing the QB.

But he would need to redo his contract

I'd say keep him. If there was a young talented replacement on the roster, that's one thing. But at this point it would just create another hole on the roster.

The other argument that you could make is that the defense would be ok with out him, and cutting him could clear space to sign a WR. If I had to pick between the two, I'd take the WR. So I would only cut him if it meant the money was going for a better cause.

I would keep him. We need a solid guy in his position, and I would not want to take a chance on an unknown to replace him. All depends on FA of course.
