The WR/CB Catch-22,or... why camp reports will be especially annoying this year.
The Rams spent two draft picks (Quick, Givens) and FA money (S.Smith) on WRs.
They also spent two draft picks (Jenkins, Johnson) and FA money (Finnegan) on CBs.
So, come training camp... the naysayers can't lose.
Rams run a pass play - well covered, pass broken up: "The WRs can't get separation. They still haven't improved the WRs at all! We're doomed!!!"
Rams run a pass play - WR beats coverage for a TD: "The CBs can't cover anyone! They still haven't improved the DBs at all! We're doomed!!!"
We might see some of the same when Scott Wells lines up against Michael Brockers.
The point?
Camp reports mean diddly squat.
Reactions to camp reports that assign any significant meaning to the outcome of a few plays mean less than diddly squat.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Sunday- Jenkins is a stiff!
Monday- Quick stinks!
Tuesday- Finnegan is washed up!
Wednesday- Smith has terrible hands!
Thursday- Johnson couldn't cover a floor with a rug!
Friday- Givens couldn't catch a cold!
Saturday- What was Fisher thinking?

The only report that matters coming out of camps is the injury report.
I will wait to judge the players until they hit the field for real... just want them to be able to hit the field. : )

I remember a while back reading that Leonard little developed his skills because he would frequently line up against Orlando Pace in camp. Look what that made him into. Coincidentally, when Pace left, Little declined. Our WRs will go up against great CBs and that will only make them better. Maybe our WRS sucked last year because they had no competition in training camp?

The one camp report that means a lot is the injury report. As i say year after year on this topic, you can't win anything in camp, but you can sure ruin your season if you get unlucky with injuries.
