Yahoo's Chris Landry Analysis

Yahoo's Chris Landry answering a reader question:

What performance was under the radar this week yet something you viewed as outstanding?
The St. Louis Rams’ defensive effort orchestrated by defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. He has 64 different blitzes currently in his playbook and really came after the Broncos, forcing Jake Plummer out of any comfort zone and attacked the "A" gap and "B" (between the guard and tackle spots) with a steady diet of run blitzes. The result was five forced turnovers and the unnerving of the Broncos' offense.

64 blitzes. That must be alot. I agree though. We just shook up Plummer.

Re: Yahoo's Chris Landry Analysis

This is exactly what we need to do the next 2 weeks with a young Alex Smith, and an easily panicked Kurt Warner under center.

Re: Yahoo's Chris Landry Analysis

I have to admit that I'm surprised that the Rams as a whole especially the defense haven't gotten more press than they have. In the long run maybe it's better that way, flying low.

I agree we need to keep up the pressure, but we also have to be careful not to leave our corners without help-this is especially true for the AZ game when deep posts to Fitzgerald or Bolden could hurt. I/m not saying we should play the Marmie zone scheme, but we need to temper the blitzing with some solid secondary play.

Re: Yahoo's Chris Landry Analysis

I agree as long as haslett mixes the blitzes up with some man coverages and zone we should be fine but too much blitzing can lead to disaster if picked up as stated before bolden and fritzgerald can get open deep down the field easily if there's only one corner or a saftey to stop em
