Yet another example of moronic internet sports reporting

Remember this tidbit from Rotoworld a week or so ago?

    Gregg Rosenthal
    rotoworld

Torry Holt underwent knee surgery in late January, and isn't yet running at full speed. This would indicate it was more involved than a simple arthroscopy
Well, as we now all can see, there was no reason for concern. Torry is already on the field practicing.

Of course, the only thing worse than a sportwriter who talks out of his posterior, is one who continues to do so after being proven wrong. Here's the latest from Rotoworld:

Torry Holt underwent routine surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee in February.

He somehow managed to keep the operation somewhat quiet until now, but his knee has apparently been bothering him for two years. He’s expected to be ready for the start of the season and should be among the top fantasy receivers once again.
    What?!?!!?

First of all Holt did not keep the operation quiet, and it was common knowledge that Torry has had nagging knee issues over the past two years (he's acknowledged as much several times). It was also reported months ago that Torry was having his meniscus repaired. This is an extremely minor procedure (I've had it done and was playing softball 10 days later).

So here's my tip. Believe 75% of what players and coaches say, 50% of what on-site reporters report, 25% of what national reporters report, and 1% of what internet hacks report.

You're going to have a hard time proving that ratio on coaches and players. They have a very real and necessary habit of not saying certain things. Plus, Linehan himself is a happy, smiling coach-speak bs-er from the get go. When he bs's, though, it's usually in the service of keeping things positive. And Holt went out of his way at one point during the season to downplay and even cover up the degree to which he was hurting.

I would also be interested in you showing that half of what on-site reporters like Jim Thomas says is not true.

In terms of internet reporting...do you know anyone who takes it seriously? Is there a huge demand out there "to know what roto-world thinks?"

As in all things, better to set the abstractions aside and just go case by case.

Those reports, the ones you cite, are lazy. But then, you know they're not true not because you're omniscient, but because you read reliable local and national sports reports on the same issue.

Anyway, always best to go case by case.

Actually, I am omniscient. To prove it: your left shoe is untied.

Again, you speak in terms of black/white, truth/lies.

The reason local sportswriters are right only 50% of the time is that even they have limited information, and then must fill in their stories with speculation, opinions, slants, spins and critiques.
