Man, it'd be risky to send him to the practice squad though. Anyone else could sign him if they wanted him.

Apparently in workouts at UCONN he clocked in at 4.95 in the 40 and had a 37" vertical. That's a pretty good leap right? Needs to get faster though.
I wouldn't get too excited about this one just yet.

According to NFL Draft Scout:
Campus: 4.75 in the 40-yard dash...350-pound bench press...300-pound power clean...34.5-inch vertical jump...33 ¼-inch arm length...9 7/8-inch hands.

Re: Yo! Did Yall Hear About This???
I'm not going to read too much into his 40-yard dash numbers. I'm sure if he'd had the same practice routines and training that a lot of NFL draft prospects had the chance to go through, he could've shaved a couple tenths of a second off the time. Being a full-time basketball player, his 40 time will be deceiving.
Here's an article from a little while ago...
By: TFY Draft Preview
Date: Apr 21, 2006
Representatives from a dozen NFL teams made their way to Stoors, Connecticut this morning to workout former Husky basketball player Ed Nelson. Many came away impressed and the future tight end now sits on the radar screens for several franchises.
The teams represented included the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins.
Nelson measured 6-feet-6-inches and weighed 262-pounds. He also hand an impressive wingspan with a 34-inch arm length. He ran the forty in 4.95-seconds and posted a 34-inch vertical jump.
He then showed impressive hands and looked like a natural pass catcher during the practice session. Their was a divergence of opinion on Nelson, whom most thought looked like a basketball player trying to play football.
The consensus is Nelson's a three year developmental prospect who'll be on a practice squad for at least two years.
Because of this some teams have no interest in Nelson's services or investing the work required into making him a fulltime pigskin player. Yet others seem enamored with the big athlete.
Nelson spent an incredible amount of time with the Chargers, who sent their tight ends coach to watch the workout. Washington, who will be moving away from the H-back system and transitioning to a conventional tight end in their offensive sets, also spent significant time with him as did the New York Jets.
