You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
Yeah, Yeah I know it's "only" preseason. C'mon that was disgraceful!
People play games to win, period.
Whether it's ping pong, checkers, hopscotch, tiddly winks or preseason football.
People play games to win!
Thank goodness this wasn't a regular season game, sheeeesh!
Our team has a long long way to go to gain respectability from the rest of the NFL and the media. I've been saying all offseason that we are a 4-5 win football team and I'm sticking to it.

You don't play to win the preseason, you play to evaluate your players. Chuck Pagano pulled a Spags for their team while we were blatantly vanilla for the most part.

People do.People play games to win, period.
But Fisher didn't."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
Spags always seemed to focus on winning pre-season games and look where it got us.

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
If we played the win the pre-season, Bradford and Jackson would have never been pulled, and no backups would have ever gone in save for injury.
I'm sure those guys who were in after the starters were playing to win. Just their spot on the roster, not the game.

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
as men we all have competitive nature regardless of anything we play to win - fans pay admission to see team perform well and win - coaches want to see who goes and who stays and win - players want to make the team, and win.
my son plays t-ball they dont keep score but believe me the kids want to win none want to go home loserLast edited by LA Rammer; -08-13-2012 at 09:21 PM.

Not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying Spags' focus on winning meaningless pre-season wins brought us lots of pre-season wins, but seemed to be pretty bad at evaluating and raising talent.

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
Colts lose leading tackler Pat Angerer for at least 6 weeks and they lose LB Scott Lutras for the season.
But hey, they won a scrimmage.
Like GC said, no injuries.....that's what's important."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
If you compare what was happening to us this time last year when it comes to camp injuries, you gotta be thrilled.
Rams came out of it injury free. In fact, Fisher had nothing but good things to report on the injury front saying that the team actually expects to enter week 2 of the preseason healthier than week one. That’s hardly ever the case.

Re: You play to WIN the game.....You play to WIN the game
The fact that they lost two players is immaterial to them whipping our @$$, because they didn't lose them as a consequence of whipping our @$$. It was not a trade off.
Injuries happen whether you win or lose.
If you don't suffer any injuries during the course of a game, you can chalk that up to luck (no pun intended).
However, it certainly doesn't mean that Bradford and/or Jackson won't go down for the season in the next game or practice. Injuries are just the nature of the game and they will come no matter what you do.
There's no magical rule that says if you lose, you will be spared injuries. Nor is there one that says you must lose players if you go out and dominate.
All of us with common sense know there will likely be injuries in most every football game, regardless of the outcome.
So the point is, you might as well "play to win the game". And if not win, at least show well.
In fact the only time winning is not important for a team like the Rams, is when losing brings you 3 first rounders, 2 seconds, and a 5th.
