You wanted McMichael... you got him (Signed by Rams)

According to the Rams official site.

I have mixed feelings about this one.

Plus side: Linehan knows him, and he is talented and has been productive. Plus, Seattle wanted him.

Minus side: He has had run-ins with the law (domestic violence) and it seems to be an indication that the Rams will release Byrd, which means his selection was wasted.

Hmm, not too excited about Randy McMichael for TE depth. His productivity at Miami here: http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/302087

I think Klopfenstein is on a positive development learning curve and Aaron Walker is a proven TE backup with good blocking skills. Why do we have to rely on a [possibly shady] McMichael? I was not looking forward to this acquisition.

    Thanks for the report AV.

Actually Randy McMicheal is what we need, we want more Red Zone production, and that's exactly what he's for.

I'm kind of surprised and then I'm not, since Linehan has familiarity with him. Hopefully he will contribute and not be a distraction.

I could smell this coming a million miles away. Bye Bye Byrdie...

McMichael is a pretty good tightend....I like it.

Randy McMichael is better than any other TE you have. Having that said, it's stupid considering you drafted a couple TE's last season.

Well, here's one for you: If Martz would have been with the Dolphins and he would have signed two players quickly this offseason from that team....most of this board would have been up in arms saying MM is showing favortism but when Linehan does it, it's ok.

That notwithstanding, I'm Switzerland on this one. I don't see this being a major improvement of any sort or a major depletion of any sort. It's just a signing. He better block though.

manu sucked ...simple as that.. never produced on the field... byrd was doing alright the last few games of the season but i guess not now... mcmichael and klope will be a formidable combo... i love the signings of all the offensie talent plus the resigning of stuessie... just means we will be scoring more while the defense will just have to be just a lil bit better.. hopefully haslett can gel the defense tighter...

We could have done without this signing... but damn, we are looking amazing on the offensive side of the ball. I personally think he is better than given credit for. The Rams have never made much use of their TE's though.

Bulger, Jackson, Holt, Bruce, Bennett and now McMichael.

Re: You wanted McMichael... you got him (Signed by Rams)

    March 8, 2007

ST LOUIS (TICKER) -- The St. Louis Rams added another target to their passing game Thursday, signing tight end Randy McMichael to a three-year contract.

    Financial terms were not disclosed.

McMichael found a new team just two days after being released by Miami.

"This has been in the works for a while," Rams coach Scott Linehan said. "We even considered trading for him. He is an every-down tight end and a proven starter in the league. He does a lot of things well."

McMichael, 27, spent his first five seasons with the Dolphins. Last season, he finished second on the team with 62 receptions for 640 yards and three touchdowns.

A 2002 fourth-round pick, McMichael has 283 catches for 3,096 yards and 18 touchdowns in 80 career games.

The Rams received little production at tight end last season from Joe Klopfenstein, who had 20 catches for 226 yards and one TD.

If Byrd is going to be let go, then I think it makes sense. I wonder what else they have "in the works." Some defensive line help maybe?
