Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
It's getting there, week after week, where only the strong survive.
At this point, all things considered (important to you), which players make the 53 Ram man roster?
Please place your players names. My roster still in progress.

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
Ok, here's my attempt:
OFFENSE
QB - Bradford, Feely, Null
TE - Fells, Onobun, Hoomanawanui
RB - Jackson, Ogbonnaya, Toston
FB - Karney
WR - Robinson, Avery, Gilyard, Amendola, Gibson, Burton
LT - Saffold, Young
LG - Bell, Allen
C - Brown, Fraley
RG - Goldberg, Greco
RT - Smith, Trautwein
TOTAL = 26
DEFENSE
DE - Long, Hall, Selvie, Adeyanju, Davis
DT - Scott, Robbins, Ryan, Gibson
OLB - Diggs, Grant, Carpenter, Chamberlain
MLB - Laurinaitis, Vobora
CB - Bartell, Fletcher, Murphy, Dockery, King
S - Atogwe, J Butler, Dahl, Payne
TOTAL = 24
SPECIAL TEAMS
K - Brown
P - Jones
LS - Massey
Practice Squad - Lewis, M Johnson, Sims, Q Butler, McRae, Douglas, Hull
Might have left someone obvious out. I think Adeyanju beats out Sims for the last DE spot because of his ability to play DT as well. I'm not sure about Eric Young at OT, haven't heard that much about him, I think the Rams may pick up a veteran tackle after the final rounds of cuts. Tightend is hard to call, I think Bajema has a good chance to make the team but I don't know whose place he'd take.

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
I agree with TheBritishRam except maybe at LBer & TE
My OLBers are:
Diggs, Grant, Vobora, Carpenter
My ILBers are:
Laurenaitis and either Hull and Douglas.
I think Chamberlain might be the guy left out because he's almost strictly a special teams player.
At TE I think Bajema or Johnson beats out Onobun who probably moves to the practice squad. With the OL, they need 2 steady blockers at TE. If Onobun makes this roster, it's because Fells didn't.
Oh and the 5th DE position is still pretty wide open.Last edited by RebelYell; -08-20-2010 at 12:02 PM.

RealRam has 50 because he wouldn't forget OJ at Saftey.
I don't think the 3rd RB is on the roster yet.
I think McCrea ends up on the PS.Last edited by Richbert88; -08-20-2010 at 04:30 PM.

Notes
-I elected to go with Toston over Darby for the third RB spot, but I tend to agree with Richbert in that I wouldn't be surprised if one of the three running backs on the active roster isn't yet on this team. Look for the Rams to pay close attention as teams cut their rosters at the end of the month.
-I'm still waiting for the WR battle to shake out. I think it's clear that Avery, Robinson, and Gilyard are going to make the team, and after the first preseason game, you can probably add Danny Amendola to the list. After that, it's anybody's guess.
-At tight end, while Fendi Onobun has impressed some writers in camp, I'm just not convinced he's done enough to cause the Rams to carry four tight ends. And I think Bajema's value as a blocking specialist means he gets carried on the roster while Onobun hits the practice squad.
-I only have the Rams carrying three offensive tackles, because Goldberg can slide outside if needed so he acts as the fourth man.
-At linebacker, I have the Rams carrying three players for the Will position (Grant, Carpenter, and Chamberlain). Vobora would back up at both middle and Sam linebacker. Grant has the versatility to play either outside spot, so I didn't feel the need to force myself to have a back-up for each specific spot, as long as some guys had versatility to go a couple of places.
-Based on the way our cornerbacks have been dinged up so far this summer, I wouldn't be shocked to see the team carry six into the regular season. If they elect to only carry five, then I think it comes to Butler or King. King's time with this team might be running out.

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
Nick,
A few comments are in order for your list:
1.) Whether Onobun has done enough to make the team may be irrelevent. If we cut him I really don't see the other clubs passing him by so he can be signed to the Rams practice squad. He might not have done a whole lot yet but, imho, he's done enough to be noticed and picked up by some other team.
2.) Why do you think that the Rams will carry 6 wr's into the regular season? Since we only run 3 wide occasionally and never 4+wide I was thinking the Rams would only carry 5 wr's. What are your thoughts here?
3.) I see that you have Hall Davis on the final roster. Have you been hearing anything positive about him?
At any rate, we may know a lot more after this weekend's game with Cleveland.
WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
1) That's a fair point, and the Rams very well may keep him on the roster for that reason. I simply had a hard time carrying four tight ends on this team.
2) I think it's a combination of the talent they have in the 3-6 range as well as the health issues they've had at the position. Robinson and Avery are dinged up now. Gilyard has been dinged up. Last year, just about everyone was dinged up. It's kind of the same thinking I'm using at cornerback - carry the extra guy in case you get bit by the injury bug again.
3) Nothing specific, but I wonder if Adeyanju's use as a DE/DT swingman will cause the Rams to carry a fifth defensive end.

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
-- Yes, WR Amendola, I think, is pretty much in. Perhaps not a cinch but close to it.
-- I became a 'fan' of Onobun real soon and am still hoping he gets the nod as a rookie in the roster. BTW, I'd rather we start with 3 TEs on the list, not 4.
-- You're right, Nick. Good thing that Goldberg is a versatile T / G (I think on either side). I'm also glad Fraley and Bell can also easily and effectively switch between C / G.
PS: Thanks 88. 'Totally left Atogwe out! I was just kidding with him to see if he'd react.

NOTES: I had a hard time filling out the roster this time around. Most years, the cuts are hard, but this year I was scrambling a bit for additional names for the secondary, offensive line, and defensive line. In the end, I went with one more receiver and one more tight end than originally planned. It would be hard for me to go with say LG Roger Allen, III or RT Ryan McKee over Fendi Onobun, Brooks Foster, or Brandon Gibson.

Re: Your 53 Rams roster by game 1, 2010...
I think the problem with Onobun making the roster is his complete lack of blocking ability. As is often the case with 3rd string RBs, if a TE can't be counted on to pick up the blitz, they are going to have a difficult time making a roster. This is why IMO Toston will be the bubble player if a RB is signed. Toston has struggled with blocking.
Nobody is including Hull at LB. I've heard a couple times on the radio that he's been very impressive during camp. I think that's where Chamberlain will have difficulty. Late round picks have difficulty surviving if they aren't progressing and Chamberlain is fine on special teams but is likely to never earn a roster spot for his play at LBer.

On a linebacker related note:
According to Fantasy SP: "[Bishop will] offer nothing more than preseason depth for the Rams."Rams Report: LB Bishop added
Tuesday, August 24, 2010 2:31 pm
The St. Louis Rams have replaced injured linebacker Dominic Douglas on the roster with another LB, 6-1, 239-pound Devin Bishop.
Bishop, a product of the University of California, signed with the Broncos as an undrafted rookie but was released Friday.
Douglas was battling a hamstring injury.Last edited by RealRam; -08-24-2010 at 04:26 PM. Reason: Second quote
