Had to borrow your post here because the feeling is exactly the same since '65. [Even in
2007, I greatly enjoyed seeing the picture of Carriker about to sack / smack a shrinking Joey Harrington Falcon]
But my greatest sentimental Rams moments took place Sept. 11 and 12 of 1988. My beautiful wife had gotten tickets for our eight year old son and I to fly to Southern California to watch a Rams game.
During those two days, first, we saw the Rams defeat the Detroit Lions; after the game we collected some autographs and pictures including Coach Robinson who kindly posed with his little young fan. Larry McCutcheon and Jack Youngblood who were both just hanging outside the Anaheim stadium among Rams fans, friends and players also gave us their autographs.
Secondly, the next day (or was it Tuesday?), we went to Rams Park and I talked with the nice and friendly security guard who was considerate enough to allow us onto the field. My son was a happy camper and I couldn't believe our fortune!
Pictures and autographs, this player, that player. All these signatures were scribbled on the 1988 Rams Calendar we got the day before and that my wife has carefully protected till this day. Most of the team's autographs are on that calendar. We also have Johnnie Johnson posing with my son for the photo as well as Jimmy Everett, Mike Wilcher, LeRoy Irvin, et al.
That was the greatest Rams moment -- seeing my son approach the players with pen and calendar in hand and having them graciously correspond.
:l Everlasting images.
