Your wishes could come true...NOT-Edwards gone

Not sure why some of you would like him back...but here is your opportunity.

    atriots release veteran safety Edwards

    By Sports Network
    Thursday, August 25, 2005

Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Patriots released veteran safety Antuan Edwards on Thursday.
Edwards signed with New England in June and competed in the team's first two preseason games of the 2005 season.

The 28-year-old Edwards has played six seasons in the NFL -- the first five with the Green Bay Packers and last season with both the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams. He recorded career highs of 13 starts, 65 tackles and 10 passes defensed with the Dolphins and Rams in 2004.

Edwards has started at strong safety and free safety in his career. He was drafted by the Packers with the 25th overall pick in 1999.

I don't see a problem with signing him to compete with guys like Hawthorne and OJ. As long as it's close to the minimum.

I cant get over the ball that hit him in the hands that he dropped for a sure TD in the falcons playoff game. Totally and completely changed the game.

His name brings back horrible memories, but the Rams should sign him immediately. They need more competition at the free safety spot, and Antuan Edwards is the only capable [knowing the defense... somewhat.] player out there that might be able to step in right away. If he can't beat out all the other journeymen we have back there, cut him.

There's one problem with that. He's injured. They relased him with an injury settlement. He has a cast on his arm.

The Rams should sign him. I felt like he was the only one actually playing defense vs the Falcons. Him dropping the ball didn't change the way our d-line was completely dominated into submission. Sign him and let him compete.

Really separate from this thread, but if you watch mike vick (i live in atlanta, i cant miss him) you will see that he is prone to losing his confidence and having long periods of complete innacuracy and big mistakes. Sure, he makes spectacular plays, but if edwards catches that ball and runs it in and we go up 14-7, you dont know how vick would have reacted. I am NOT saying we would have won anyway. Of course you are correct we got dominated at the line of scrimmage, but remember that until the punt return right before half we were right in the game and were moving the ball and scoring on offense as well.

ps you guys are right of course, if edwards can play, no reason not to bring him in for the minimum, just venting.

what he said. it's kind of a nonissue. i didn't think he played bad last year, but by the time he can play again someone better have already stepped up in the FS spot or we're screwed anyways.

I think Otogwe or Hawthorne would be better. Obviously no one wants this guy for a reason.
