Seahawks edge Rams at Dome 24-19
:xSay Hello to a bobbled snap and the ending to a winning streak. It was to be a home coming of sorts. It was to be a new beginning. A new team with a new purpose. And the Dome was to be the event. The Seahawks were to be the first win of the year. How fitting since the last meeting where the Rams got bashed 33-6. It was to be win 501. It was to be the first home victory of 2007. And more importantly the third win of the second half to a horrible start. A win over the Seahawks at home would have been huge. A 3-0 start in the second half is what we hoped for.
Hopes and dreams are not always things we can control. Gus Frerotte seems to go with that theory. Seattle's dominance at the dome winning six straight is hard to swallow. And given the poor outings at the Dome lately by this team, i guess it was only fitting to come away with a loss on a bobbled snap. Blame the exchange and the overall play. But let's say we had opportunities to prevent this ending. It was a situation where this offense should not have been at in the first place. Poor tackling on special teams is to blame. The 1st quarter kickoff return by Seattle's Josh Wilson for the 89 yard touchdown was the sign we were in for some trouble. Even though we responded. It was a sign of things to come. Winning 19-7 before the half was a positive. But all year long this team has continued to struggle to hold leads after the half. The third quarter and especially the fourth quarters is the deciding factor when preventing losses.
Losing to a rival is bad enough. Losing your starting quarterback is not what the second season was planned for. And given he has been sacked 30 times in 2007, it's no wonder he is still aware of where he is on the field. Marc Bulger is gutsy and prideful. He has taken a beating and always comes back even wounded. He is a good quarterback and he deserves better. Gus Frerotte on the other hand is a decent backup. He is no starter. But he does manage the game well when called upon. So to put blame on a bobbled snap on this backup is absurd. We gave up big plays in the contest that allowed Seattle to score 17 unanswered points after we had them beat at 19-7. Seattle's Coach Mike Holmgren admitted," We were fortunate today" and stated," I don't think we played our best football."
Defensively the Rams failed to stop big plays and the special teams failed to stop a kickoff return for a TD. Those are the stats and the difference in the 24-19 loss at home. M. Morris was held to 16 for 79 yards. No reason why this was not a victory.
Two plays and that was the dagger that killed the winning streak and the first win of the season at home. 0-5 at the dome is a nightmare.
I will end this week on a positive note. And say even though we did not play a better defensive game to win against Seattle. The defense has been playing good caliber outings as of late.So credit Jim Haslett. He has improved our stock. The stellar play of Will Witherspoon, O.J. Atogwe, Pisa Tinoisamoa and Brian Chillar so far have given us some exciting plays to cheer for. Atogwe, Bartell and Brown top dogs in tackles, add the interceptions of Atogwe and Pisa and we have an improved secondary. So overall defensively we are improving and as these guys get better,
we will be a top notch unit hopefully by 2008.
The overall review this week is that we let one get away at home and the bobbled snap is not the blame. We had opportunities in other plays to win this game.

it's that kind of year period. these things always happen to a team when things are going bad, look at the miami dolphins. these guys had pittsburgh where they could have beat them and a few late first downs killed them. they should have been nowhere close in playing with the steelers but when things are going bad they go real bad. i think our rams have a great shot at beating atlanta this weekend and i agree with you that last weeks loss wasn't gus's fault entirely. we had the seahawks beat and this was a game we should have won. we can't get ALL areas of this team to play good at the same time, it comes in spurts (one week the offense, next week the defense, next time special teams, all that). if they play half way decent in ALL areas of the game we are much better than 2-10. i'm sick of them losing but will not give up watching and hoping for a win!:l
