I think the only person who could have been even slightly considered outside of Brees would have been Bettis.

Brees had to be the winner. He rose from the football graveyard this year. Others that may have gotten a little consideration...maybe Brian Griese, not as dramatic a turnaround as Brees, but he still has some life left in him; and maybe McGehee, unless his is more of a just showing up instead of actual comeback. But after seeing that hit he took in the national championship game, I'm surprised he can even walk, much less playing in the NFL.

Brees had been my secret hope of a qb that might slip to the Rams in the draft. He was a stud in college but not prototypical and the whole Rams/qb/Purdue connection would have been nice to see again.
I was surprised that he struggled as much as he did early on with San Diego but I'm glad to see him doing well now. I still think Flutie's better though and that it was a mistake not to start him over Brees in the early days. That's why I'm payed millions of dollars as an analyst. I have perfect 20/20 hindsight.
