Re: 9ers trade for Anquan Boldin
***** acquire Anquan Boldin for 6th-rd pick
***** acquired WR Anquan Boldin from the Ravens in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.
The Ravens were on the verge of releasing Boldin, so GM Ozzie Newsome did well to get a pick back for a receiver entering his age-33 season and still clearing all of his $6 million base salary off of the books. Boldin adds another physical possession receiver to Colin Kaepernick's arsenal, though we'd expect Boldin to take a bit of a backseat to Crabtree and Vernon Davis in 2013. As great as Boldin was in the playoffs, he does not create separation. To fully capitalize on Kaepernick's arm, the ***** either need A.J. Jenkins to step up as a vertical stretcher, or they'll need to find one someplace else.

Re: 9ers trade for Anquan Boldin
If you're willing to take on his salary, a sixth round pick isn't a big price to pay for a starting receiver. The ***** certainly have enough picks to spare a late one in this kind of deal. Hopefully we can defend him.

Re: 9ers trade for Anquan Boldin
Not a bad price. He's never been a primary receiver, and even though he did well in Baltimore, they traded for him to be the lead receiver and he never was. In fact, he never reached the 1,000 yard plateau with Baltimore like he did in Arizona. I can't say I was too interested in him w/ the Rams simply because he seems to be on the downside of his career. He still represents an upgrade for the whiners though. Can't say it speaks well of AJ Jenkins though.

This is getting ridiculous. News coming in, the Rams have dealt a 3rd rounder for Darrelle Revis now that their division is stacked with WR's!

Re: 9ers trade for Anquan Boldin
I was kidding, but if the Jets would take a 3rd for Revis I'd do it. Plus, Finnegan hasn't shut anything down.. I think you're over-rating him pretty significantly. He's a great player, but by no means is it a kind of "put Cortland there and forget about them".

Re: 9ers trade for Anquan Boldin
If you want to play the "the Rams should have..." game, you have to consider the relevant factors. The 6th round pick is not the issue. Rather, its Boldin's $6M salary.
The operative question is, what will the Rams use that hypothetical $6M on instead?
If it goes toward signing a quality starting OT, then they made the right call.
If it goes toward signing a TE like Jared Cook, then they made the right call.
If it goes toward signing a younger WR who will give the Rams 3 or more years of production, then they made the right call.
Its easy to be "jealous" over the Seahawks and Niners' moves, but let's be honest here. The Rams are not in the position (yet) to take go "all in" for 2013. Rather, we need to look at improving for 2013, while building for a run in 2014 and 2015.
A guy like Boldin won't help us there.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

HaHa it's funny to see when our rivals make moves that could of quite easily come our way and a fan's reaction is to downplay em! I hope bad cap/locker room issues let's us enjoy watching the Whiners and Seagulls battleships catch fire and sink back into the depths from which they came. Full speed ahead Fisher!
