The ***** confirmed Smith was involved in an incident but did not elaborate on how he was hurt. The second-year player's injuries are not supposed to be serious, the newspaper said. The team described them as "minor injuries."
"We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious and that he is recovering comfortably," general manager Trent Baalke told tarCSNBayarea.com.
The party was in Santa Clara County, south of San Francisco.
The team released this statement to the Bee:
"The San Francisco ***** are aware that Aldon Smith incurred minor injuries during an incident last night. We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious and that he is recovering comfortably. The ***** are also in communication with local authorities as they gather information regarding the incident, and will reserve further comment at this time."
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department said there were two people wounded from gunshots and one was stabbed at the party, according to the newspaper.
Smith, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2011 draft, appeared in all 16 games as a rookie last season, registering 14 sacks and 37 tackles. He also forced two fumbles and defensed four passes.
Smith was also arrested this offseason for DUI in January in Miami Beach, Fla.
I would just like to say that *knocks on wood* I am really happy that the Rams of steered clear of these types of major distractions from key players. Shows a lot about the character of everyone involved with this team.
