Alex Brown (DE; Bears) on Trading Block?
Brown on the block?
<May. 4> According to a variety of sources, the Bears are shopping Brown, writes to Len Pasquarelli.
The five-year veteran is a solid two-way defender, but the former University of Florida star has never really developed into the weakside pass rusher many felt he would be at the NFL level. Brown has 27 sacks in his five-year career, with a career-best seven in 2006, and 20 in the past three seasons. He has three years remaining on his contract, at base salaries of $595,000 (2007), $550,000 (2008) and $670,000 (2009).
Chicago has a standout young pass-rusher in second-year veteran Mark Anderson, who notched 12 sacks as a rookie in 2006. And the Bears feel they got another one in the draft in Dan Bazuin. The former Central Michigan star had a school-record 35 career sacks, including 16 sacks as a junior, and he led all defensive linemen in this year's draft with 63½ tackles for loss.

Re: Alex Brown (DE; Bears) on Trading Block?
Other than getting a little bit younger, hes not much of an upgrade over hall. A career best of 7 in one season is not exactly aw inspiring.
That said i wonder what they are after in terms of value. 4th or 5th?"There's only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything. I do, and I demand that my players do."

Bears working to trade DE
Posted: Saturday May 05, 2007 08:30AM ET
Bears GM Jerry Angelo didn't invest a high pick in Dan Bazuin to watch him grow during practice, so the Bears probably are still working to trade Alex Brown, as they were entering the draft. Word is that that it wasn't the Bears' asking price that prevented a deal from getting done, but rather the contract demands of Brown, who is believed to want more than $10 million guaranteed in a new deal.

Re: Alex Brown (DE; Bears) on Trading Block?
Would I want Alex Brown on the roster?
Yes.
Would I give up a future second round pick for him?
Yes.
Would I give him a $10M signing bonus?
No way.

Re: Alex Brown (DE; Bears) on Trading Block?
Here's a trade I would make:
Rams send Jimmy Kennedy and Jeremetrius Butler to the Bears for Alex Brown.
The Rams would unload the contracts of two players who have fallen out of favor, and gain a young edge pass rusher.
The Bears would get a DT (which they need with Ian Scott's departure and Tank Johnson's uncertain future) and a CB who played some of his best football under Lovie Smith.
That's just so crazy it might work!
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Alex Brown (DE; Bears) on Trading Block?
AV, I'm not much a vaule knowlagable guy, but something tells me that Kennedy + Butler does not equal a second round value.
Also I'm not so sure Chicago needs another coner, seems to me that have at least two pretty reliabel guys right now in Vasher and ? (can't think of the name).
Thirdly, the bears seem to be pretty cheap, so I doubt they want the contracts of two reasonably well paid under achievers.
I'm also not sold on giving up on Kennedy, just yet, especially with the lack of experiance in the middle of our new DL. He may be an under achiever so far, but at least hes played in the league and sort of kinda knows what its all about.Last edited by Revelstoke; -05-07-2007 at 12:29 PM.

I would love for KC to have him simply because of Jared Allen's DUI suspension from the NFL for 4 games. But who knows what the Bears are asking for him. I would trade Greg Wesley and a 5th rd pick for him in a minute!

a young edge pass rusher whats not to like besides that 10m dollar bonus. This would give the rams secondary and little more help and make them even better than they are now
