Panthers: Receiver help needed
The News
Panthers' general manger Marty Hurney will be keeping a close eye on which wide receivers are released when teams begin cutting players after June 1. The Rock Hill Herald reports that the team might be looking to add depth beyond starters Steve Smith and Keary Colbert. Az-Zahir Hakim, Johnnie Morton, and Rod Gardner are among the wideouts who might be released by their current teams later this week.
Our View
The 85 year-old Ricky Proehl is currently listed as the No. 3 receiver on the Panthers' depth chart, so it wouldn't be surprising if the Black Cats add an experienced wideout before training camp opens. Given the number of injuries this team suffered last year, we can only assume that they understand the importance of depth more than ever.

Panthers: Morgan contract talks open
The News
The agent for Panthers linebacker Dan Morgan has met with team officials regarding a new contract. The Rock Hill Herald reports that agent Drew Rosenhaus opened contract discussions with Panthers officials last week and that the goal is for a new deal to be in place before training camp. Morgan has one year remaining on his current contract.
Our View
The Panthers are in a tough spot because starting linebackers Morgan and Will Witherspoon are both entering contract years and each is represented by Rosenhaus. Morgan is a top-20 linebacker in fantasy leagues that award points for individual defensive players and is clearly the priority over Witherspoon at this time.

I think Az was already released. The incompetence of alleged "professional" journalists never ceases to amaze me.
