Bailey may miss season
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (Aug. 11, 2004) -- Second-year linebacker Boss Bailey will miss much of the regular season for the Detroit Lions while recovering from knee surgery.
Bailey injured his right knee in an Aug. 3 practice. He underwent arthroscopic surgery in Athens, Ga., where doctors discovered torn cartilage that had not shown up in previous tests.
"The damage was worse than anyone had realized from the tests," Lions coach Steve Mariucci said. "The doctor immediately repaired it, but Boss will be off the knee for several weeks, and then will be looking at a rehab period on top of that."
Mariucci declined to put a timetable on Bailey's return, but said the Lions hope to have him back this season.

Re: Bailey may miss season
The Mel Kiper types had us taking him in the 1st round last year (which would have meant a pass on Pisa). I'm glad Mel was wrong.

I'm sure am glad we got Pisa instead. I was comparing his stats to Boss's last year and Pisa performed better statistically for St. Louis.

Re: Bailey may miss season
I wouldn't trade Pisa for anything, but had we picked Boss, I doubt we'd be disappointed. He's a good young player who's going to shore up that defense, methinks. It's unfortunate (for Detroit) that he was injured.

Just more proof than the majority of the draft is a crapshoot.

He looks like a talented kid (45" vertical leap), but 3 serious knee injuries in 3 years can't be good for his young career.

Re: Bailey may miss season
His injury history was really the only reason most Rams fans didn't want him. Guess we were right.
