Re: shanahan?
Nope, wouldn't want Shanahan. I am not sure what malfunctions where happening in Denver and can't say he is to blame for their defensive woes, but from a stand point of awaking the offense, it will take more then his talents as HC.
The Rams offensive line is PATHETIC (and that is putting it nicely)! It will take a very hard nosed, iron handed individual to turn the Rams O-line around. For the most part, the o-line needs to be scrapped and rebuilt which means bringing in new younger group that needs to be molded into a united unit taking a drill master personality

Re: shanahan?
Nah. I think we need a defensive minded coach.
I know we're used to allowing teams to run up yards all over us. But this needs to end.

Re: Broncos Fire HC Shanahan
smizzhfx's post appears at the top because he started his thread first. His thread and yours were merged together because they're about the same topic - no use having multiple threads for the same topic.
Since there is no link between Shanahan and the Rams, the topic was moved here, where all non-Rams football news and posts are to be placed. If Shanahan becomes a contender in the Rams' head coaching search, then it would be appropriate for Rams discussion.
It's not about being strict, but rather just keeping Rams news and topics in one place and non-Rams news and topics in another place.

Re: Broncos Fire HC Shanahan
I'd be ok if he was the hire. I get the feeling that he wants to lay low and pull a Cowher to take the best job. He would also likely want a position like the one he had with the Broncos as both the coach and as a psuedo-GM.

Re: Broncos Fire HC Shanahan
Shanahan is an interesting possibility.
Pros:
Won 2 Super Bowls
Career Win Percentage: .598
Postseason Win Percentage: .615
Plug-and-Play running game
Successful zone blocking scheme (based on the schemes of Alex Gibbs)
Top 5 Offense in 3 of the last 5 years; top 10 offense in 7 of the last 10 years
Highly credentialed coach who now has something to prove
Cons:
Not a defensive coach (our front office is said to be looking for one)
The least successful years of his career are among the more recent ones
The Cleveland reject defensive line didn't quite pan out for him
All in all, I think he's a very good coach, but I wonder whether this would be the best fit for him or us. We do need someone to come in and whip the offensive line into a better unit, but as it stands right now, I don't know whether our offensive personnel match up with what he'd want to do. The defense has to improve, and we'd probably be relying on his defensive coordinator to get that done.

Re: Broncos Fire HC Shanahan
As others have said paired with a capable GM Shanahan would be a very interesting HC candidate. I've always thought he was a really good HC, his schemes (especially O-line) have been a big success for a long long time in Denver proving it was no fluke. Look at his career winning percentage, I think the worst he's done in the last 10 years is a 7 win season and he was fired after an 8-8 season where they contended for the division title right down to the last game. I was quite surprised to see him fired, it must be a similar situation to Marty in SD - i.e he got fired because of the lack of success in the playoffs despite very good regular-season efforts. Denver may come to regret this, but I think we should start talking to him and see if he would be interested in coming to St. Louis.
