Bucs fire OC ..guess who is their new OC?

    Buccaneers fire offensive coordinator Jagodzinski
    Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski on Thursday, saying they weren't getting the "direction" needed from him 10 days before the regular-season opener.

First-year coach Raheem Morris offered a vague explanation for the move on the eve of the team's preseason finale against the Houston Texans. Quarterbacks coach Greg Olson was promoted to Jagodzinski's role and will take over playcalling.

The dismissal of Jeff Jagodzinski stemmed from prolonged "attention to detail" issues that the team had been monitoring for weeks, writes Steve Wyche. More ... "I have a lot of respect for coach Jags, and what he did, and the effort he put into his work, but we're at the point now where we need to be more precise, we need to be more detailed and we need to have more direction on where we're going to go," Morris said.

Jagodzinski was hired in January, three weeks after being dismissed by Boston College for pursuing an NFL head coaching job.

He led Boston College to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game in each of his two seasons there, but was fired after being told he would be let go if he interviewed for the New York Jets' coaching vacancy.

He interviewed despite the ultimatum and was fired the next day. The Jets job eventually went to Rex Ryan.

"I'm not here to bash Jeff Jagodzinski. What he did, coming in here and implementing the plan and having an idea ... was good," Morris said. "We're just at a different state right now. We need to be more direct. We need to have more precision. We need to know where we're going."

Jagodzinski was offered a demotion to quarterbacks coach, but declined.

"I am certainly disappointed but I wish nothing but the best for Raheem Morris and the entire Buccaneer organization," Jagodzinski said, adding in a statement released by the team that turned down the chance to remain on staff because "the timing for such a move was not in the best interest for either side."

Boston College athletics director Gene DeFilippo issued a statement when he learned of Jagodzinski's firing. "It's unfortunate. All of us at Boston College wish Jags and his family the very best."

Morris said he did not feel the change will disrupt the team's preparation for the Sept. 13 season opener against Dallas.

"When you talk about being in chaos, you're talking about not having a plan," Morris said. "The plan has not changed."

I'm predicting a mass wave of Buccaneers going on fantasy football trade blocks soon.

These young first time coaches aren't very patient are they. Todd Haley fires Chan Gailey in KC, and now Morris fires Jagodzinski. I'm sure they know what they're doing.

i think KC will be ok because it`ll just mean that Haley will call the plays... but for the Bucs..i think they have thrown away any chance of making the play-offs now the O is in the hands of Olsen... and such strange timing...seems to me something big must have happened to make such an unsettling move on the eve of the start of the regular season..

Don't forget Darth Hoodie's young Sith, Josh McD. He managed to run his ace QB outta town before the ink was dry on his HC business cards.

Firing such a prominent member of your coaching staff for a lack of attention to detail is pretty insulting. Wonder what this guy did/didn't do to make the guy Limpehan neutered in STL halfway through the season look like a better option.

Hard to say if Spags' team will play well enough to earn him the accolades but just the way he's going about his business makes me feel like we got the pick of the rookie HC litter.

I feel bad for my boy Sammie Straughter (who we should have drafted instead of Foster) He has had an awesome preseason fighting for a slot position and starting returner for the bucs. Now he has that tool calling the plays.....It might stunt his development. I wonder how long Olsen will last before he's fired???
