Cards Acquire Hambrick & Zellner in Trade with Raiders
CARDS ACQUIRE HAMBRICK & ZELLNER IN TRADE WITH RAIDERS; Also Place Wakefield on I.R., Release Four; Claim One
The Arizona Cardinals announced Tuesday that the team has acquired running back Troy Hambrick and defensive end Peppi Zellner in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. In exchange, the Raiders receive an undisclosed conditional 2005 draft pick.
Hambrick (6-1, 233) entered the league with the Dallas Cowboys in 2000 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Savannah State. He appeared in 51 games with 27 starts for the Cowboys between 2000-03. Last season he started all 16 games and rushed for 972 yards on 275 attempts (4.0 average) with five rushing touchdowns. He was released by the Cowboys on May 13, 2004 and signed with the Raiders four days later.
The 6-5, 262-pound Zellner also broke into the league with the Cowboys. He was drafted by Dallas in the fourth round of the 1999 Draft out of Fort Valley State. He spent the 1999-2002 seasons with the Cowboys and appeared in 57 games (17 starts) recording six sacks during that span. He played in 16 games for the Redskins a year ago.
Also today the team placed defensive end Fred Wakefield on the Injured Reserve list (foot) and released cornerback Dyshod Carter, guard/tackle Raleigh Roundtree, defensive tackle Joe Tafoya, and linebacker Marcus Wilkins.
Lastly, the Cardinals were awarded their waiver claim offensive tackle Alan Reuber off waivers from the Vikings. Reuber (6-6, 323 pounds) was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Minnesota this past spring out of Texas A&M and was released on August 30. The former Aggie appeared in 47 games (22 starts) over his four-year Texas A&M career at offensive tackle, including starting all 12 contests last season. He started eight games in 2002 and was a part of an offense that passed for a school record 3,216 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Today’s transactions reduce the Cardinals roster to 69 players including four NFL Europe exemptions.
That's gotta suck for Hambrick. He *****ed about being Emmitt's back-up in Dallas, and now, he's back to being Emmitt's back-up.

Good point, Nick. But I wouldn't go house shopping if I were Hambrick. As soon as Shipp is healthy, Troy will be sent packing.
