Chiefs cut DE Hicks

Nine year veteran Eric Hicks has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs. Since everyone is calling for a veteran DE to be brought in is there a chance this person could be Hicks? Definetly something i think the rams should think about

Re: Chiefs cut DE Hicks

Agreed, I think he could more than likely compete with Hall for the starting job

Re: Chiefs cut DE Hicks

We have two starting veteran ends already. I don't think we need another one. Instead I think we'd be better served with a younger guy we could use situationally while grooming for the future. That's why I wanted to see one drafted, at least.

Re: Chiefs cut DE Hicks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs released defensive end Eric Hicks on Tuesday, three days after taking defensive lineman Claude "Turk" McBride in the second round of the NFL draft.

Hicks, who made the Chiefs' roster as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 1998, has appeared in 128 games with 104 starts over nine seasons.

He became a full-time starter in 1999, when he appeared in all 16 games for Kansas City, but has seen his role diminish in recent years with the emergence of Jared Allen and Tamba Hali.

Allen has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games next season, for two DUI convictions, and the decision to draft McBride -- who can play inside or outside -- followed the team's vow after last season to start a youth movement.

Hicks ranks fifth in team history with 44.5 sacks, with a career-best 14 sacks in 2000.

He also ranks 12th in tackling with 574 -- including 284 solo stops -- with a single-season best of 118 tackles in 2003.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought you guys wanted to get better on defense?!?!

Hicks should have been released 4 years ago. He's the Chiefs poster boy for the Dick Vermeil loyalty program he built in KC.

Re: Chiefs cut DE Hicks

Well, if we did bring him in, we'd have to hire a team designated driver.

You're thinking of Jared Allen. Hicks is well known off the field to be a good member of society with him and his wife's charity work in the KC community.

It's just a shame that he can't play football.

So much for a good member of society...
