Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Saturday that the club has traded LB Scott Fujita to the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round draft pick in 2006 and a conditional draft pick in 2007.
Fujita (6-5, 250) played in 48 career games (41 starts) in three seasons with Kansas City, recording 326 tackles (230 solo) with 9.5 sacks (-51.5 yards). He also added one interception, a forced fumble, 15 passes defensed, 18 QB pressures and 23 special teams tackles. Fujita also saw action in one postseason contest, registering five tackles and a pass defensed.
The 25-year old Fujita started all 16 games for the second consecutive season in 2004, leading the Chiefs with 112 tackles (71 solo) for his second straight 100-tackle campaign. He also registered a career-high 4.5 sacks (-25.5 yards) to go along with three passes defensed and eight QB pressures. Selected to Pro Football Weekly’s All-Rookie team in 2002, Fujita was also the recipient of Kansas City’s Mack Lee Hill Award that season, an honor which is given to the club’s most outstanding rookie or first-year player.
Fujita originally entered the NFL as the Chiefs fifth-round pick (143rd overall) in 2002. The Ventura, California native was a former walk-on at the University of California who worked his way into the starting lineup, appearing in 39 games (24 starts) over his collegiate career. An honorable mention All-Pac 10 selection as a senior, Fujita opened all 11 games, racking up 60 tackles (43 solo), 7.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks (-23.0 yards), three passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
