FACT OR FICTION?

-Having addressed their receiving weakness with the addition of Jerry Rice, the Seattle Seahawks are the favorites in the NFC West.

-The Miami Dolphins will go 0-16 this season.

-Ricky Williams will be on an NFL roster this season.

-Kurt Warner will be voted into the Pro Bowl this season.

-Acquiring McCardell will make the San Diego Chargers instantly better.

-The Jaguars are doing just enough to warrant a playoff birth.

-Brett Favre should and will retire after this season.

-Steve McNair is overrated.

-The acquisition of Mike McKenzie will have marginal effects on their pass defense this season.

-The New York Jets will upset the New England Patriots this weekend.

-The Denver Broncos really do boast the league's best defense.

1. Fiction - Rams baby!
2. Fiction - they'll win a couple (just not this week!)
3. Fiction - next year (maybe).
4. Fiction - Culpepper and McNabb will be 1 and 2.
5. Fiction - WRs rarely fit into an offense immediately.
6. Fiction - They'll be on the outside looking in.
7. Fact - it is time.
8. Fiction - but he's wearing out.
9. Fact - the Saints need a lot more than a CB.
10. Fiction - forget the stats. If you want a stop, you want the Ravens D.

-Having addressed their receiving weakness with the addition of Jerry Rice, the Seattle Seahawks are the favorites in the NFC West. FICTION - Koren Robinson is now suspended for four weeks, and he's better than Jerry Rice. Even with his (3?) drops, he had 9 catches for 150 yards last week.

-The Miami Dolphins will go 0-16 this season. FICTION - They've still got opponents like the Cardinals, Whiners, Bills, and Browns coming up. The Fins are bound to win at least one.

-Ricky Williams will be on an NFL roster this season. FICTION - Even if he gets on an NFL team, he'll struggle to find a spot on the team late in the season, and might have to still serve suspension time.

-Kurt Warner will be voted into the Pro Bowl this season. FICTION - Warner's got a 91.8 rating, but he's not carrying the team. His stats after five games? Three touchdowns, one interception.

-Acquiring McCardell will make the San Diego Chargers instantly better. FACT - Until now, the Chargers' only options in the passing game have been tight end Antonio Gates and third-year receiver Reche Caldwell. McCardell provides excellent experience and will thrive with the threat of Caldwell on the other side.

-The Jaguars are doing just enough to warrant a playoff birth. FACT - The Jags' offense under Byron Leftwich with his sidekick Fred Taylor has been rolling, and that defense is stellar. They'll have to fight with the rest of the crowded AFC playoff contenders, including the Ravens, Jets, Steelers, Ravens, Colts, Texans, and Broncos. They've shown the grit to win close games.

-Brett Favre should and will retire after this season. FICTION - Favre should retire after this season, but he will not. He can still perform at a high level, but the talent around him is diminishing and he's already had a concussion.

-Steve McNair is overrated. FICTION - Our Steve McNair of the past has proven that he's got toughness and great leadership, but that was the past. While he's not overrated, he is over the hill.

-The acquisition of Mike McKenzie will have marginal effects on their pass defense this season. FACT - I like Mike McKenzie, but the addition of one cornerback cannot make a big impact on the defense, especially at this point in the season.

-The New York Jets will upset the New England Patriots this weekend. FACT - And all of a sudden the J-E-T-S will be on top of the AFC at 6-0!

-The Denver Broncos really do boast the league's best defense.I've gotta go with David here; go ask Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

FACT OR FICTION?

-Having addressed their receiving weakness with the addition of Jerry Rice, the Seattle Seahawks are the favorites in the NFC West.

FICTION - Rice didn't make a difference in Oakland, and shouldn't make a difference in Seattle. He just can't separate anymore.

-The Miami Dolphins will go 0-16 this season.

FICTION - The defense will be able to steal a few games for them. Hopefully one will come against the Seahawks.

-Ricky Williams will be on an NFL roster this season.

FICTION - Next season is another possibility.

-Kurt Warner will be voted into the Pro Bowl this season.

FICTION - Too much quarterback talent in the NFC. IMO he'd have to surpass Culpepper, Hasselbeck, McNabb, and yes, Marc Bulger.

-Acquiring McCardell will make the San Diego Chargers instantly better.

FICTION - Reche Caldwell is a skilled young receiver and he's gone for the year. McCardell is not in game shape and still has to get used to the Chargers offense.

-The Jaguars are doing just enough to warrant a playoff birth.

FACT - Jaguars will earn a wild card spot in 2004.

-Brett Favre should and will retire after this season.

FICTION - If they thought this was the case they wouldn't have released Tim Couch. Favre has too much pride to go out with a bad season like the Packers are currently in the middle of.

-Steve McNair is overrated.

FICTION - Not overrated, just broken.

-The acquisition of Mike McKenzie will have marginal effects on their pass defense this season.

FICTION - The Saints secondary isn't horrible, and Mike McKenzie is overrated.

-The New York Jets will upset the New England Patriots this weekend.

FACT - The Jets are on a roll despite a hiccup in San Francisco, and the Patriots streak has to end sometime right?

-The Denver Broncos really do boast the league's best defense.

FICTION - That honor still goes to the New England Patriots.
