    Corey Simon?

Do you think we should look into this guy? I mean he would help plug up the middle. I think we should look into him.

He's a consistent player on the defensive line, but we already have two starters in Pickett and Kennedy. I'd say depending on what's going on with Pickett's health, we should consider it. But chances are, we don't have the kind of cap room to meet the contract demands of a Corey Simon.

We probably can't afford him (you're right!), but
Pickett and Kennedy are NOT proven commodities and haven't played at the level of Simon.

He'd be a solid pickup, but to afford him we'd HAVE to lose at least one of our current starters. Yes they are unproven, but I don't think giving up on them to that extent is advisable, yet.

    Not sure....

His value has dropped so fast it makes you question what the heck is going on with this guy????

    Is he a mental case???

    Is he injured???

No heart plays for the money???

OR needs a new environment to show case his talent???

While I wouldn't mind signing Simon, I'd rather spend the money on veteran help in the secondary.

Agreed. I think the money would be better spent adding help at cornerback or safety, where we have bigger question marks.

    Re: Corey Simon?

I disagree. Yes we need DB help, but the game I watched last week in San Diego, we need some D-line help and have so for a number of years. Wasting time on the whatifs of these first round d-line pics is time ticking off the clock for this team. I say sign the guy, see where he fits in the rotation or starts, then cut one of these underacheivers, and let them do the same on another club. How long are we gonna hear that D-lew needs to play up to his first round pick status ???
Plus, going into the season with an injured, "Big Grease", has me worried even more. He's been the ONLY mainstay on the inside of that line.

    Re: Corey Simon?

IF we picked up Simon (which will never happen based on the economic reality of this situation), it would be the end of D-Lew. They play the same basic position. Kennedy and Pickett are more of a NT-strongside-gap eater. We could use a couple of those and even both at the same time (which agrees with the current depth chart and Marmie's bigger is better philosophy). However, D-Lew and Simon are both inside pass rushers, with less emphasis on stopping the run and occupying inside blockers. We DON'T need two of those. One is plenty. Therefore, if Simon were to come on board, D-Lew would have to go, which would constitute a cap hit.

Even if we could afford him, I just don't see it happening.
