Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent in jail for intoxication manslaughter, not on team plane to Cincinnati
By Clarence E. Hill Jr.
_ According to three sources, Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Price Brent was the driver in a fatal hit and run accident last night that may or may not have involved another Cowboys teammate.
He was arrested for intoxication manslaughter at 4:00 am and is currently in the Irving jail.
A spokesman for the Irving police department confirmed that a fatal accident occurred at the 1400 block of John Carpenter Freeway at 2:30 a.m. early Saturday morning.
They declined further comment until the family of the deceased was notified.
Brent's agent Peter Schaefer declined comment as did Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones.
Per a source, Brent was returning from partying at Club Privae in Dallas and was traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control of his vehicle. When police arrived on the scene, Brent was responsive, the deceased was not. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police conducted a field sobriety test on Brent and also drew blood before taking him to jail.
The Cowboys made a roster Saturday morning before departing for Sunday's game against the Bengals, signing defensive tackle Robert Callaway from the practice squad and putting cornerback Orlando Scandrick on injured reserve.
This is second tragic incident in the last week for the NFL, following last Sunday's murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girl friend Kassandra Perkins.
It's also the second time in the last decade that an active Cowboys player was involved in a traffic fatility.
Cornerback Dwayne Goodrich was involved in a hit and run accident that killed two people in 2003. He was convicted on two counts of criminally negligent homicide and served eight years in prison before being released in 2011.

You're making mid to high 6 figures. Just get a cab or a driver for the night. This tragedy was so easily avoidable.
