An NFL source said the Cowboys are close to finalizing a seven-year contract with free agent tackle Leonard Davis.

Davis' deal is expected to be worth around $49 million.

He was originally scheduled to visit the Giants today, but elected to sign with the Cowboys after spending his first six NFL seasons in Arizona. The former University of Texas star grew up in Wortham.

Although he has never made the Pro Bowl, the second pick of the 2001 draft can play both guard and tackle positions.

Should guard Marco Rivera retire or the team does not re-sign free-agent right tackle Marc Colombo, Davis could replace either spot.

An NFL source said, however, that the Cowboys remain in negotiations with Colombo.

The source said the team also expects to re-sign kicker Martin Gramatica, possibly as early as Monday.

"Cowboys agreed to terms on a seven-year, $50 million contract with G/T Leonard Davis. The deal includes $18 million in bonuses.

Being a draft bust pays off. No team has spent more on their offensive line than Dallas, and it hasn't really worked to this point. Davis had motivation problems in Arizona, but his versatility will help a Cowboys line that currently has spots open at right tackle and right guard."

Wow, is it just me or didn't they just overpay like crazy? I've never been impressed with Davis' play, he's not even close to being worth that kind of money IMO.

Cowboys must be feeling a change of scenery will motivate this guy. Lot of $$$$ for a guy that doesn't seem to be worth it.
