SLOW START: Asked about the play of first-round draft choices Vernon Davis and Manny Lawson, coach Mike Nolan said neither caught his eye. Nolan indicated he would need to watch film to evaluate their play.
Davis, a tight end, did not catch any passes. Lawson, a linebacker, also had a quiet night.
"Now I just learn and get better from it," Lawson said.
Davis and Eric Johnson regularly lined up in two tight-end sets in the first half.
"Me and Eric are athletic enough to get things done," Davis said. "Teams don't really have that in the league, two tight ends that can make plays. I think we have that here, in me and Eric."
