Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Quote:
Once the stir of Marshall’s arrival calms, attention will turn to Moreno’s absence. Expect the Moreno watch to come down to the first set of two-a-days Friday.
One league source said the hold up with first-round negotiations _ only four of 32 had signed by Monday morning _ was San Francisco’s Michael Crabtree. The receiver from Texas Tech was a No. 10 overall draft pick but he is seeking top 3 money.
If Crabtree gets top 3 money at No. 10, then the picks around him _ Moreno was selected at No. 12 overall _ would negotiate their contracts accordingly.

Aaron Maybin is holding out of Bills' camp for the same reason. Crabtree isn't going to get that kind of money, though.

Profootballtalk.com is hearing that the ***** "won't flinch" on Michael Crabtree's exorbitant contract demands.
The agents of players around Crabtree's draft slot (No. 10) are hoping San Francisco satisfies his top-three pick contract request so they'll get more for their clients. But that reportedly isn't going to happen. The ***** have the receiver depth to withstand a Crabtree holdout, but Josh Morgan and Isaac Bruce will likely be starting on opening day if it extends long enough.
IMO, Crabtree wasn't going to be starting over Morgan or Bruce anyway, but the longer he waits to get in camp, the further he moves himself down the depth chart. Obviously he isn't going to get cut, but not having been able to participate in minicamps because of his foot, he may find it hard to get on the field if he misses more practice time.

These 20-year-old prima donnas are more than I can stomach. What I wouldn't give for more rookies like Peyton Manning......
(After being drafted #1 and signing his rookie contract)
Reporter: So, Peyton, now that you've got all this money, what's the first thing you're going to do?
Manning: Go earn it.
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
I hope none of the NFL teams buckle. Collusion is the word!
There needs to be STOP put on these crazy contracts these kids are getting.
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Whether it's true or not, it's an interesting phenomenon. Crabtree has apparently been anointed the new bad guy in the NFL press.
If you were a muckraker, which city would you rather grub around looking for scandalous dirt; San Francisco or Buffalo?
Anyway, very glad he's not our media relations nightmare. Maybe we'll get lucky & The Cards will pick up Vick and/or The Hags will give Pistolero Plax a , um, shot.
The TO Show just got a spin-off and it hasn't even gone into syndication yet.
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Crabtree can "break a leg" for all I care ...
What a clown. You got drafted 10th and want top 3 money? Well, genius, you want to know why you aren't going to get top 3 money? Because you got drafted 10th!
I hope this idiot gets buried in that depth chart and gets to smell Bruce's back end for about two more years, then flames out into nothingness ...
These stupid kids don't appreciate anything these days ...
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
I think the league and the owners want to work a rookie salary cap into the next CBA, but that jackass DeMaurice(sp?) Smith isn't going to make it easy for them. I think we're definitely going to see a lockout/strike season soon
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Maybe Al Davis made the right decision in picking the WR they did! At least he is signed for the Raiders
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Do you think the Rams FO knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to take a big pass on Crabtree and his arrogant attitude by crossing him off their draft list? It just makes me feel so good to have a guy in Jason Smith who's first priority is to get to camp and do whatever it takes to help his team.
Crabtree is a joke.
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
I was going to post this very story thinking back to our discussions pre-draft. I am very glad we didn't sign this guy, and I am even more grateful the Whiners did! In the words of Nelson from the Simpsons..

Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
Players like Crabtree seperate to good organizations from the pretenders:D
How they will deal with a player, like Crabtree, tells a lot about an organization. If they have the depth and flexibility to over come a players absents, they bring these "STAR"-egos down to earth with a boom! The Pats, got by without Brady and might have gone to another Superbowl...hense good organization. Question is how with Frisco deal with this star's attitude
The Rams single biggest mistake was knuckling to S. Jacksons demands; there second biggest mistake was not have the flexibility to go on without him. As much as I like Jackson, if I was running things there, I'd be looking for a future without Jackson and within the next to seasons QUIETLY be hawking him around in a trade. His $44million contract almost makes it a certainty that S. Jackson will find himself in a T. Holt/I. Bruce situation--too expensive to keep with the salary cap

Probably. Remember the story from April saying that Crabtree came off as a diva during his visit to Rams Park? After that story, I can't say him being a training camp holdout is a surprise.
Re: Denver Post: Crabtree is holding up first-round contracts
What's really ticking off my Whiner friends is that Crabtree also missed all of the off-season stuff so he's REALLY behind the curve.
At least TO showed he could play before he became a cancer.
I love it.
On the other hand, the pre-draft darling Curry is still unsigned as well but no one is calling him a problem yet.
